13 year old Samantha has loved and competed on horses for as long as she could remember. So when she gets accepted into the world's most elite equestrian academy, she couldn't be more pleased! However, with a top notch equestrian academy like Cheste...
I smiled as I urged Dino into a smooth canter. It was our first competition of the season, a small jumper, with the maximum height being 3 feet. Focusing on her rhythm, I turned Dino onto the first jump; a triple oxer into a bending line. We soared over the jump, and I turned Dino onto the second jump, a low single leading to a one strider. Once again, we jumped it successfully, and I smiled. Jump over jump, Dino and I were one, flying towards the clouds. At the end of our course, we had a time of 2:32, and zero faults. I patted Dino the whole way out of the arena, wearing my grin as bright as anything. My mom came over and hugged me, and my dad shot his camera right at me. I gave my dad a playful knock to his shoulder, and Dino following my example, did the exact same. "Hey, back off you too," my dad nudged me around playfully. I dismounted and proceeded to loosen Dino's girth and take her bridle off. "You sure you want to do that?" My mom frowned, "You have about 20 more minutes until you need to be in the warm up ring." "Yes mom, I have plenty of time!" I rolled my eyes, exasperated. My dad winked winked at me, and then backed off, probably to get a hot dog. I kissed Dino on the nose, and offered her some water and a horse treat, to which she eagerly accepted. I closed the stall door, and left to get some water. About fifteen minutes later, my mom grabbed me by the arm and hustle me to Dino's stall, insisting that I get her ready. So I re-tacked her, checked her hooves, gave her a final polish, and jogged out the door to the warm up ring. This class was flat-class, and I wasn't exactly looking forward to it. Dino was not exactly great at maintaining her pace in a group, in fact, she always tried to race everyone! I have never won a flat class with Dino before, and I knew I wasn't going to this time. At least I had my show jumping score to boost me up. We started off fine- with an energetic but well paced walk. However, Dino would not lengthen her trot, instead, she picked up her pace, into a bumpy trot. At canter, she was more than ready, and picked up a gallop while everyone else was collecting. I wasn't even surprised when Dino refused to walk, she just broke into a fast trot, then stopped dead. Defeated, we left the Manner Pow competition with a measly 23rd out of 70.
