[December 23rd, 2016]

Rain poured over my truck as the thunder clashed, making the ground vibrate. My eyes squinted, driving as fast as I could in the pouring rain and darkness of the night. My heart raced as I could feel sweat build up between the steering wheel and my palms.

I have to get away.

The rain came down harder, as if fate was working against me. All I could see was a sheet of water in front of my truck as I steered blindly through the windy mountain roads. Something caused me to start sobbing. Maybe because I was scared. Maybe because because I knew I wouldn't make it out alive.

I'm going to die on this mountain.

The truck confirmed my fears when the tires failed me and started sliding toward the steep drop off to the left of the road. I steered the vehicle quickly to the right, trying to use whatever hope I had left to save my life. I thought I was okay, that it would be the only scare I would have to go through. But it wasn't. I didn't see the large curve and the rusty railing that I was speeding toward.

For a split second after my truck broke through the railing, I flew. For a terrifying second after that, I dropped.
