It was a normal day. Gym, school, then home. I went home with Katie and Hayley went with Mommy.
I was almost home when I got a call from Mommy. "Annie," Mommy said, her voice shaking. "We've just got into a big car accident." I almost dropped my phone when she said that. Katie looked at me. "Is Hayley ok?" I asked, screaming. It was silent for a moment. "No, she's not. Ask Miss Jill to drive you to the hospital." My head was spinning. Car accident? Hayley not ok? I don't want to be an only child!
I told Miss Jill. "Annie? What's wrong? Why are we going to the hospital?" Katie asked me. "Hayley," was the only word I managed to say. I began to tear up, and Katie hugged me. "Everything is going to be fine," she told me. I hope so.
On our way to the hospital, I heard the radio music turn off and a man speak. "There has been a tragic accident. We don't know if anyone died, but it looks very serious. At least five cars!" I started bawling at that. Miss Jill turned the radio off. "I'm so sorry you had to hear that, Annie," Miss Jill apologized. "My sister..." I mumbled to myself. Katie hugged me harder.
