Without bitter, the sweet isn't as sweet

when i was seven,

lola had a boyfriend

he said his name was jake 

and i could call him jakey

i stopped seeing jakey at the door

so i asked lola about jakey

her eyes began to ache

and she ran to her room

when i was ten,

lola had a new boyfriend

he said his name was matt

and he had colorful inks on his skin

i started seeing purples on lola's skin too

i asked her what was that

and this time she wouldn't even look at me

(and i still had no idea what happened)

when i was eleven,

lola had a new one again

he said his name was christopher

and he bought teddy bears for me

every time he picked lola up for a date

but i still had no idea why lola cried

every night as she fell asleep

when i was fourteen,

lola had a new boyfriend

he said his name was derek

and he always sat at the living room

watching how i met your mother

with me for ten minutes while

waiting for lola to get dressed

and this time i never saw pain in lola
