Killian went home that night and picked up his mail from his mailbox. He found that the bills and rent were due soon. He was making more money now, but it still wasn't enough to catch up.
He walked in and threw the envelopes onto the table and sat down on the couch. He grabbed his phone and looked at it, seeing a bunch of text messages from his father. They were nothing but letters scrambled together and rants about how sorry he was and what a pathetic father he is.
Killian remembered the good times he had with his dad, mother, and brother. They were the perfect family with family game and movie nights. Each evening, they would all sit at the dinner table and eat together. It brought a smile to Killian's face when he remembered the good and happy times.
He fell down onto the couch and sighed in exhaustion. He ran his hand over his face. He wondered what Emma was doing. Was she thinking about him? Was she as crazy about him as he was about her?
He wanted to show Emma that he was a good guy, and that he would be an amazing boyfriend. He wanted her to know that he was always going to be there.
The next day, Emma had walked into her office and placed a stack of papers down onto the desk when there was a knock at the door. A moment later, it opened, and David stood there with his hands in his pockets.
"Morning, David." She said and stood behind her desk.
"Emma, do you have a minute?" He asked.
"Yeah, sure. What's up?"
"I actually wanted you to just go easy on Killian. You can't break his heart."
Emma smiled. "You're very protective over him."
"He's my friend."
"Then it will be good for you to know that I won't hurt him. I promise. I really like Killian, and I want everything to be perfect."
David smirked. "Do you think he could be the one?"
She shrugged. "I have no idea."
"You will." With that, David left the room.
Saturday eventually came, and Emma had been hooked on David's words. She couldn't get them out of her head. Was Killian the one? She had told herself that she barely knew Killian, but she felt a different and deeper connection with him. She knew that she really did like him though.
Killian had told her not to wear anything super fancy. Just a pair of jeans and a nice blouse. She was putting the finishing touches on her makeup when there was a knock at her door. Her shirt was white with ruffles and touches of pink to it. She had a swan necklace around her neck, one that looked exactly like the logo for her hotel.
She ran to the door and took a deep breath before opening it. Killian stood there in a nice dress shirt and jeans. He had a black leather jacket on and a smirk on his face. He held out a bouquet of lilies for her and she took them eagerly.
"You look beautiful, love." He said and gave her a warm smile.
"You look good too." She blushed and took the flowers into the kitchen and grabbed a vase. She put water in the vase and the flowers in it, and smelled them. "The flowers are lovely. Thank you."
"It was nothing. Shall we m'lady?" He held out his arm for her and she threaded hers with his.
"We shall."
Killian took her out to his car and helped her in. He ran over to the driver's side and sped off.
"So, would you like to enlighten me to where we are going?" She asked and glanced over at him.
"Nope. It's a surprise." He laughed.
Emma crossed her arms over her chest and stuck her lip out, pretending to pout. "Please?"
"You'll love it. I promise." He gave her knee a gentle squeeze and she rolled her eyes at him, all the while having a hint of a smile on her face.
Emma was a little confused when they arrived at the park. He parked the car and helped her out. She decided to just wait and see where he took her instead of asking questions. She knew she wasn't going to get an answer out of him anyway. But when he walked up to a picnic blanket, she smiled widely. There were candles that lit up the area, adding to the light of the moon.
"There's more to this date, I promise." He said and sat down. Emma followed suit and giggled.
"Even if there wasn't I'd be okay with it." She said.
Killian gave her small finger sandwiches and wine. He was very nervous about what she would think. Probably that he was cheap and just didn't want to spend money on her to take her out on a proper date. But, Emma wasn't thinking that at all. She was thinking about how cute and romantic he was. He had made the perfect atmosphere for a late night picnic, and she couldn't have been more excited about it.
After they ate, Killian then took her to the edge of the park where a horse and carriage sat. Two beautiful Clydesdales were waiting for them, ready to take them wherever they wanted to go. The carriage was white but had plastic gems all over it, and it glittered in the moonlight.
"Your carriage awaits, m'lady." He said and jumped up. Killian held out his hand for her and helped her up. He grabbed the reins and began a slow trot around the park.
"How did you get this?" She asked. Emma wasn't sure if her excitement was showing too much, or if it could have been heard in her voice.
"I bribed the guy who takes kids for carriage rides." He winked at her. "It's taken care of, love."
Emma leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed contently. "I'm not worried."
Killian was completely taken off guard, but the attention wasn't unwanted. He could smell her intoxicating scent of some flowery perfume. He turned and kissed the top of her head, making a silent promise to himself that he wouldn't screw this up.
