A/N - I like the balance of sadness and comic relief in the middle. It's also longer than I usually write oneshots I think. This won't make sense unless you read the Memories fic from way in th beginning!

Absent mindedly Y/n ran her thin fingers up and down the various burn scars gracing her perfect features. Every once and again memories of the flames licking up and down her skin danced through her mind; sending shivers down her spine.

Her thin digits skipped across the marks, wishing them away. A masculine voice pulled her away from her thoughts. "You okay?" Steve asked entering the room.

With a small nod she continued to stare at the marks strewn across her skin. Following the trail of scars to just above her left eyebrow, thinking about her face's lack of symmetry.

"Y/n?" Steve questioned again.

Pulling herself from the pool of her thoughts she looked up. "Okay, I'm not fine. You win!" Y/n huffed.

Steve's eyes widened for a moment as he wondered what he had gotten himself into. "Do you need to talk to someone?"

With a quick glance at the scars entangling her otherwise perfect flesh, she spoke. "Yes."

Steve waited for her to continue, now sitting quietly beside her on the floor.

"It's hard for me to think of Bucky as- well Bucky, when I have a constant reminder of his um- capabilities." Y/n spoke sadly.

Steve sighed and met her eyes, as he lightly squeezed her shoulder with one hand. "It's hard for me too."

"I know but you're not the one who wakes up next to him every morning, or-"

Steve cut Y/n off, aggressively whispering: "Next to him? As in the same bed!?"

A chuckle erupted from Y/n's throat. "Yes. But that's not the point."

The blond's eyes bulged as he tried not to think about why Bucky and Y/n slept in the same bed. "I know, I know."

Y/n cleared her throat, glad to finally continue. "He scares me Steve, and I don't know how to tell him."

A sympathetic look formed on Cap's face as he leaned in to give Y/n a (slightly awkward) side hug. She put her head on his shoulder, causing him to blush. "Should I tell him?" She asked.

Another masculine voice boomed from the doorway. "Just did sweetheart." The sadness and embarrassment of finding his 'Doll' and best friend hugging, evident in his tone.

Steve quickly removed himself from Y/n's side, still blushing.

Bucky spoke again, "I'm sorry.". His voice cracked. "You deserve better Y/n." He whispered, making eye contact with Steve.

Tears threatened to spill from Y/n's eyes. "Buck, no." She paused "I love you."

Steve watched awkwardly as Bucky walked over to Y/n and sat in front of her. Gingerly he put his finger tips under her chin, directing her to his eyes. "Are you scared? Even now?" He voice was still cracking.

"I-I- That's not what I meant I-" Y/n whispered.

Bucky's eyes glanced at the scar twisting the flesh around Y/n's left eye. "Oh." He whispered tears prickling his stony blue eyes.

Steve put his hand back on Y/n's shoulder, "Buck, she's not scared of you. She's scared of- of um what you were."

Bucky's expression changed. Sadness to anger. "What I was? I'm still capable of killing all of you if I lose control! She should be scared of me!"

A marred and blotchy hand found Bucky's shoulder. "You are taking this the wrong way James." Y/n spoke barely above a whisper. The shock of hearing his real name, almost convinced him to stay. Shaking away the thought he looked back at Y/n.

Bucky took Y/n's scarred hand in his flesh one and gave it a light squeeze. "There's only one way to take it Doll: you're scared, and I am dangerous. I have to leave," he paused and stroked the scar on her face, "I've hurt you enough."

Y/n's face contorted into a look of desperation, "Don't you understand you leaving will hurt me too?".

He squeezed her hand one more time and let go, "Take care of her Steve, please. She deserves someone like you, not a monster.".

In an act of desperation Y/n grabbed Bucky's metal arm, begging him to stay. "Please!"

In one swift motion Bucky had detached her hands and rushed to the door. "Can't you see I'm doing this because I love you?"

She got up to follow him but was stopped by Steve's voice. "He'll come around Y/n,"

A strong pair of arms wrapped around her, pulling Y/n into a comforting hug.

A/N- Do you guys want me to add a part two? Or make it into a love triangle?
