josh smiles when he sees me. i have to remember that it's okay to smile back, though it's a pretty awkward smile. thankfully, i'm pretty sure josh finds my overall awkwardness endearing.

"hey kiddo," he says, partially just to bug me. it feels weird when he calls me that because he reminds me of my dad when he does. and it's weird because my dad is in his forties and josh is not.

"hi josh," i say.

"get any sleep? or did you stay up?"

"i stayed up."

"i knew it! you owe me a soda for that."

i look at him in confusion, "don't you usually say that when you 'jinx' with someone."

josh grins, "yeah, but i say it when i know something. so you owe me now, kid."

"oh."
