fireflies

One night a few moons ago,
I danced with summer stars.

As they flew and leaped across the sky, I twirled right up to mars.

A meteor grabbed me by the hand and took me on a flight,

We zipped right across the sun, and past those jumping lights.

When he returned me back home, he gave me something to remember him by,

A tiny jar inside my hand, held stars, my fireflies.

As he disappeared, I sadly lay down in my backyard's grass,

With my summer stars, alive in jars, and now I'm free at last.
