Summary Part 3

    A few weeks pass, and Christopher seems to be back to his neutral self,if not maybe even a bit more passive than before. Nick has not been in schoolthe past few days. This fact, however, does not seem to bother Christopher verymuch, as he seems to move robotically throughout his day. Jack at this point ispretty much calling all the shots. Everything Jack says to do Christopher doeswithout question. At the end of the school day Nick is waiting for Christopherat the door. Nick stops him and tells him that there is something importantthat he needs to talk to Christopher about. Christopher at this moment snapsout of his hypnotic state and against Jack's request to go home they followNick. Nick and Christopher end up at the bench where they had stood to gatherdonations, and Nick begins to talk. He explains that his sister wasn't alwaysso sick, and she used play with him all the time when they were little. Afterhis mother passed away, though, their father could no longer take care of them,and so they moved in with their grandparents. This is around the time that Rosegot sick and with his grandparents alone they were having trouble paying themedical bills and therefore couldn't pay for the surgery. After all of this Nicklooks at Christopher and apologizes telling him that it was his fault forgetting Christopher mixed up in the whole thing in the first place. Nick tellsChristopher that if it's any consolation they made their goal. At thisChristopher smiles. The sun sets and Nick's phone rings. The call is from thehospital telling him that his sister woke up, but her conditioned worsened.They tell him that if they're going to do the surgery it's now or never, butit's dangerous, and they can't guarantee she'll survive. Nick gives the goahead and both him and Christopher rush to the hospital. They arrive, but thesister has already been taken to have the surgery done, so all they can do iswait. They are asked to sit down, and so they do. As they sit Jack whispers inChristopher's ear "I wonder who was right." A clock ticks in the background andthe story ends.h
