I heard someone saying my name and felt someone’s hand tapping my shoulder. I thought it was Connor, but then I remembered what had happened and where I was.
“Sophia? You need to wake up now!” I opened my eyes and saw Amy looking down at me.
“What…What time is it?” I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and stood up.
“11. Um… Tristan’s asked me to go over to theirs. You can come if you want, but I’m going over there in half an hour.” Amy said awkwardly, and I shook my head. She nodded and smiled. I got up as she left, and ate some breakfast. After breakfast, I had a shower and got dressed, then sat down on the sofa and watched some TV. The next week passed in a similar fashion, with Harriet coming over a couple of times and the three of us watched a film or two. One day, Amy had gone over the house and texted me. ‘Do you want to come round and pick up the rest of your stuff? The boys are going to a signing so it’s just Harriet and me.Xxxx” I didn’t really want to go back there, but I did need some more clothes, so I texted back a few minutes later. ‘Can you come and pick me up? I’ll be ready in a minute xxxx’ The boys lived about half an hour away, so I got completely ready, put a bit of make up on and pulled my hair up into a ponytail. I grabbed a Poptart and ate one, when the doorbell rang. I answered it and Harriet and Amy were standing there. They pulled me into a group hug and we went to their car. Harriet put the radio on and they started talking about the cold December weather and the snow. When they mentioned this, it reminded me of Connor and how excited he was when it snowed the first time. I sat there in silence, feeling nervous. As Amy drove up the drive, I realised how much I had missed this place. Amy unlocked the front door – I hadn’t even realised she had a key – and she and Harriet went into the kitchen to make some hot chocolate.
“Do you want to go upstairs and get your things?” Harriet said, almost telling me to go. I nodded and walked up the stairs and into Connor’s room. I turned the light on and spotted, on the bed, the most beautiful dress I had ever seen in my life. It was pale blue silk, with a slightly darker blue flower petals seeming to fall around the bodice. The skirt was pale blue and white net layers, with the same blue silk as an underskirt. It looked like it would reach just above the knee. Bending down, I stroked the fabric and heard the rustle of paper. I picked up the small sheet and read the writing.
‘Dear Sophia,
I’m so sorry. I was stupid. If you can find it in your heart to forgive me, the band and I are going to a film premier. I bought you this dress with the thought you might like to come with me. It’s one of a kind, and beautiful, just like you. If you come to the house at 5pm tonight, a hairdresser and make up artist will be here, and they have designed your hair and make up. I would love for you to come. I miss you.
Love
Connor xxx’ As I began to cry tears of joy, I saw a small, blue box lying next to the dress. I opened it and there was a beautiful necklace sparkling in the light. It was a gold C with sapphires studded into it. At the tip of the C, there was a diamond. The girls came in, obviously knowing about Connor’s plan, and when they saw me crying, they came rushing over, asking me if I was okay. I nodded and put the necklace on. I grabbed a pen from the side and wrote on the paper ‘I’ll be there. S xxx’
