Chapter 14: And I the Devil

My smile twisted to the corners of my mouth and I licked some of the blood off of my cheek, swallowing it.  I let out a sinister chuckle as I heard footsteps coming from my right.  I didn’t look, even when I heard a loud, startled gasp from Sarah.  My eyes were not visible to her at this angle, my head still leaning back.

“W-What did you to do my father?!”  She asked, her voice trembling.  My body began twitching in a way that seemed like I was laughing, yet I made no noise.  I opened my mouth after a few seconds and let loose a loud, insane laugh of twisted pleasure.  I inhaled sharply, my smile gone, and slowly looked at her; my smile stretching across my face again.  “Y-Your eyes…”  She said.  I chuckled again, my eyes widening, as the fire finally died out.

“What of them?”  I asked in a whisper.  I widened them and she nearly puked.

“I can see all of the veins…they look like they’re going to pop out…”

“It may not be a pretty look, but this is who I am.”

“Who you are?!”  I laughed wildly at her reaction.  “What happened, Josin?!”

“Your father…when he discovered what happened to you, to our unborn child, he lost his mind.  He wanted to assure, no matter what, that I could protect you.  It’s because of him and, well, Damien, that I’ve re-discovered a piece of myself.”

“A piece…?  Then you’re only acting like this because it’s a part of who you are?”  I couldn’t help but start laughing again.

“Mm…perhaps, ehehehe…but maybe, just maybe, the other parts of me are even worse.”

“I…I know you, honey, you aren’t-” behind her there was a crash that caused dust to fly up everywhere, blinding us.  I squinted and my vision turned red with what appeared to be veins reaching toward the middle of my sight.  I saw her trying to wipe her eyes and another figure several feet behind her in the dust.  Whoever it was started sprinting toward me and jumped a few feet up, throwing a punch.  I caught it and the force from his strike blew away the dust.  When I saw his face I couldn’t help but be surprised; it was Michael.

“Long time no see, my friend…”  I threw him away from me with ease and as he touched the ground, he disappeared in a flash of electricity.  I smiled and raised my fist straight up and turned my right side slightly; smashing my fist in his face as he appeared.  He was knocked back, rolling along the ground, until he stumbled to his feet, his nose smashed and purple with blood dripping form it.  He breathed heavily but was otherwise silent.  “What, Michael?  Are you afraid of me?  You shouldn’t be; I have no intention to harm you, Sarah, or the rest of us.  I-”

“P…power…”  He finally spoke.  I turned to him, raising an eyebrow.

“What of it?”  He started twitching slightly.  He stood up and pointed to me.

“Your power…I sensed it…dormant, years ago, when Damien’s minions came here.   While you were unconscious I sensed it was still locked away…and I couldn’t control it.  I couldn’t control the demon inside me that craves for more power…and now that it’s out in the open I can’t contain it.”
