Camelot, outlined by the rising sun, shone in all its glory on the horizon. My heart swelled as the charcoal-colored stallion I rode worked every muscle to gallop at top speed through the forest. The guards behind me shouted in panic, spurring their horses, but I was much too far ahead. Indigo cloak billowing out behind me, a giggle spilled from my pink lips as I was reminded of who I was visiting.
Hooves clattered against the cobblestone roads into the grand city, and my guards shouted out for the people to make way. Surprised faces leapt out of the horses' path, a few of them recognizing the silver crests on my company's attire. We were approaching the castle when a few red-clad guards came to greet us. One offered to help me off my horse, but I slid off the saddle past him, practically prancing up the stairs. My little heard of soldiers bustled tiredly to keep the color of my copper hair in sight.
I sashayed gently into the King's throne room where Uther Pendragon lounged on his seat, surrounded by a cluster of casually-conversing knights adorned in glittering mail and scarlet capes. In the relaxed crowd I picked out a familiar blonde head, and a pretty smile crossed my face.
Uther noticed my arrival and flicked a hand towards the knights, who immediatly went to stand in ranks. Accept for one, who turned to look around. Crystal blue eyes settled into my green ones, and his face became dumb-stricken. Uther mumbled something to him, and he snapped from his daze, quickly going to his standing place.
A few of the knights snickered. They received a glare from those blue eyes.
As my own guards entered behind me, panting, Uther announced my presence in a loud, commanding voice. "I welcome the Lady Nerinia and her company to Camelot, once again, with a glad heart. It is truly a gift to have your presence with us again." The King was smiling.
I gave a small, polite curtsy to him. Speaking in my own clear, sleek voice, I said formally, "Thank you, sire. I do apologize for the suddenness of my arrival, and I pray I did not catch you unprepared." My words were coated in a way that Uther appreciated. He knew I was smart with my mouth, and he smiled again. He had always enjoyed my company, but he wasn't the only one.
"Arthur," the King said, a sly twinkle in his grey eyes. "Why don't you escort the Lady Nerinia to her quarters?"
"Of course," Arthur stated bluntly, still staring. I swear the knights were trying hard not to burst out laughing at their flabbergasted prince. He stepped out from the line quickly, approaching me with his arm outstretched. I took it gently, grinning at his still-surprised features.
He led me out of the throne room in a few strong strides and into the grand, slope-ceilinged halls of the palace. Realizing he was still staring at me, he jerked her face to look elsewhere before asking awkwardly, "Er, I had not been told you'd be coming here, Prin -"
I cut him off by twirling to face him, grabbing the ties of his cloak, and pulling him strongly down to my level. I kissed Arthur almost daintily, letting myself warm in the moment, then released him. Smirking, I said fondly, "Let's skip the formalities, shall we?" And with that, I gracefully strode off down the hallways, laughing quietly as the other knights stumbled out from behind a corner.
