Chapter One

Montana Parrish was done with everyone's shit.

She was done with not being able to go into the woods.

She was done with her parents acting extra affectionate when they were around her.

She was done with the dress fittings, quizzes on how the first meeting was going to go, and what she hoped her mate looked like.

And right now, she was done with shopping.

The mall looked as if it stretched beyond infinity, a never ending shitstorm of false advertising, crappy food, and whining teenagers.

Monty brushed her fortunately raven colored hair over her ear to hide the equally dark earbud placed there.

At least, Monty thought, I have Bob Seger.

Night Moves played, just quiet enough so that no one else could hear it.

She was a black haired beauty with big dark eyes.

The song distracted her just in time for her mother to drag her into a store.

A very pink store.

The only pink she liked was Pink Floyd.

Her eyes flew open and took in the surroundings.

That perfume.

That tinny, irritating "music".

That cheerful voice.

Oh fuckin no.

Stacy, Montys' least favorite person, was the cashier.

She took in a large gulp of air, and then silently screamed.

Stupid stupid stupid. Fuckin store. Fuckin clothes.

Fuck.

An hour later, Montana was in very constricting skinny jeans, a pink cowl neck sweater, and had at least fifty different samples of perfume on each arm.

She finally let her breath out, thanking the gods from sparing her the humiliation of make up.

"Oh honey I think it looks wonderful on you! You should wear vivid colors, they bring out your eyes," Stacy said, eyeing Montys' normal outfit of jeans, boots, and Led Zeppelin shirt with obvious distaste.

Her mother chimed in. "You are absolutely right! I keep telling her-"

She shut out the noise, sneaking her earbud back in, thanks to the future thinking of storing her phone in her bra.

There's a room where the light won't find you

Holding hands til the walls come crumbling down

-----

Monty was lying on her bed, face screwed in a perpetual ugh.

She was clicking through songs.

I can't fight this feeling anym-

Eeeeevery rose has it's-

If you like pina cola-

Come softl-

She shut it off, and gave a sigh that would break many records if it was recorded, and if there were records for sighing anyways.

The curtains were drawn, covering the view of the rest of the pack.

Her door was locked so she wouldn't have to talk to anyone.

Which would've worked, if she locked the window too.

A scrabbling could be heard right outside of it, peppered with a couple yelps and whines.

There was another thud, and raucous laughter joined the menagerie of sound.

A few clicks, and the window was open.

A reddish wolf, and a cackling blonde lept in.

"You are so emo."

Monty rolled off of the bed.

"Am not."

The wolf was sniffing through her dirty clothes.

She swiftly rolled up a newspaper and smacked his snout. "Wilson!"

Wilson gave a disappointed chuff, and sat on his haunches.

"You disgust me."

"So I'm guessing more.. hmmm.. lemme think... pink?"

"Fuck off Val."

Val clapped twice.

"Fuck on"

Wilson barked.

Valerie bent down, pulling a suitcase full of clothes and cds out.

"Valerie don't."

Val wrapped her arms around Wilson's scruff with a shit eating grin. "Oh just accept it Montana. Finding your mate is a wonderful thing and absolutely nothing can go wrong."

Monty beaned her with AC/DC's Back in Black.

"What the shit Mon? That hurt," Val whined, rubbing her head.

"You know what hurts? My feelings."

"You don't have feelings. You don't even have a soul."

"If I didn't have a soul then I wouldn't be hounded about soul mates every fuckin day of my life."

Valerie raised a hand, mouth ready with some life changing statement, and then abandoned it for "that pun was terrible" before leaping out of the window.

Wilson gave a snuff of disapproval before joining Val.

Monty watched them out, and then focused on the forest in the back.

I'm going tonight

And no one can stop me.

"Tana! Come down! We're talking about memorable first meet quotes!"
