Drive by Dreaming

Cars dead by the roadside

strewn like crumpled toys,

an overturned tanker truck

spewin' noxious gas destroys

hedgerow's modest suck,

bankrupting the countryside.

Blundering shadows in silence

stand, black sentinel silhouettes

against a leaden sky. Tyrants

all, disdain this land, in cahoots

conspire, as I go whooshing by.

Ears full, lungs tight, island

mouths speak out both sides.

At this speed I scarce can hold

my own, my mind's impressions

fleeting, yet my soul beats cold

as the lie is sown, low in subsoil

seeping. In time all things to light

are brought, ditches feed creeks,

watersheds ill into oceans spill,

while I 'in reality' lay dreaming.
