A young half-gem, half human is sleeping in the back of a pickup truck. The girl lets out a small groan before a shadowy figure approaches her and shakes her awake. "Aphmau!" The figure exclaims excitedly. The girl gasps. "Indicolite! Is it morning already?" She asks. "Its midnight! Happy birthday, Aphmau!" Indicolite exclaims. The young hybrid grabs her cheeks, then sits up and grabs Indicolite's cheeks. "Oh man! Are you finally gonna tell me that you're a fushion of the Gems, Katelyn and Travis like you promised?" Aphmau asks excitedly. "You already know about all that, Aph." The fushion says with a small laugh. Aphmau sighs and lets go of Indicolite. "It's true." She says as she falls back into bed. "But what you don't know is how Katelyn and Travis first met." The fushion with a smug look on their face. Aphmau sits back up and grabs Indicolite's cheeks again with stars in her eyes. "Oh my god! I don't!" The fushion lets out a laugh.

-Wooshy woosh flashback-

The Earth, 5,750 years ago; it was a promising site of a new Gem colony, but progress was being thwarted by a small, persistent group of rebels. A team of diplomatic Gems were sent from HomeWorld to investigate. Among those Gems was Katelyn, a rare Calcite with the power to see into the future. Assigned to her were three Howlites, common soldiers, with a mission to protect her. A Howlite with a gem in his right shoulder spoke. "Hey! Can't wait for those rebels to get here!" He exclaimed. A Howlite with a gem in the back of his right hand replied. "Haha, yeah! When I see those rebels, I'm gonna punch them right in their faces!" The first Howlite narrowed his eyes. "What are you sayin'? I'm gonna punch them all over their bodies, and then it'll be over." The second Howlite rolled his eyes. "What if I just punch you!" He punched the right shoulder Howlite in the back of his shoulder as he yelped out in pain and stuck his tongue out. The third Howlite with his gem in the palm of his hand shook his head at incompetence of his teammates. "Oh, come on. We'll punch 'em together when we fuse. That's why they sent, uh, three of us?" Right Shoulder Howlite responded with a, "Three this!" He attempted to punch the Howlite, Travis, but he blocked it. Travis was knocked backwards, causing him to back into the Calcite, Katelyn. Onlooking Gems gasped. "Oh, I, um, I'm so sorry, I, let me, uh..." Travis stuttered. "I'm fine." Katelyn said calmly. "What?" Travis had said, not sure he had heard the Calcite correctly. "It's okay. It was bound to happen." The aristocratic Gem stated. "I, uh... Okay." Travis said. "Now please wait here. I must attend to my duties." The Howlites nodded. "Right." They said in unison. Katelyn left her guards behind and approached Blue Diamond's Palanquin, where Blue Pearl was standing next to her Diamond's throne. You see, Katelyn had been called to Earth by Blue Diamond, specifically to share her vision of the future. Katelyn entered the palaquin. "My Diamond, I have arrived." She said. "Katelyn, tell me what will happen here." The mysterious giant female spoke in elegant tone. "I foresee the rebels attacking the Cloud Arena. Before they are cornered, they will destroy the physical forms of seven gems, including two of my Howlite guards, and myself. Immediately after my form is destroyed, the rebels will be captured. The rebellion ends here." Katelyn said with confidence. "Thank you, Katelyn." Blue Diamond said, relieved. "That is all I need to know." Blye Diamond dismissed the Calcite."I look forward to speaking with you again once I reform back on Homeworld." Katelyn gave a bow to Blue Diamond before she returned to her guards. Katelym knew she would be a casualty, but it did not faze her. She saw her whole life laid out before her, and she had already accepted all of it. "What a beautiful place to build a colony. I wish I could have seen more of this planet." Katelyn said to no one in particular. "Uh... there's still time." Travis said, having heard the Calcite. "That is a nice thought, but... no." Katelyn said, knowing time was up. Suddenly, a female yelled something. "Blue Diamond! Leave this planet! This colony will not be completed!" "It's the rebels!" The back-handed Howlite exclaimed. Various Gems mutter among themselves. One Gem could be heard shouting, "Who are you!? Show yourselves!" A male with a turquoise on his forehead and wielding a sword, and a female with an amethyst in her stomach appeared. "We are the Crystal Gems!" They exclaimed in unison. The Palanquin carrying Blue Diamond and her Pearl closed, sprouted mechanical legs, and walked off. The attack was right on schedule. The Turquoise used his sword to defeat four other Gems before Travis and his fellow guards intervened and fused into a much bigger Howlite. The Howlite fusion charged after the Amethyst, but she counter-attacks, instantly defusing the Howlite fusion. The Turquoise then jumped in and destroyed the forms of the two other Howlite Guards, leaving just Travis. He then prepared to strike Katelyn. "Thank you, Travis. You did your best." She said with a soft smile. Travis suddenly realized what Katelyn meant. She had known that Travis would fail. Katelyn had accepted it. But Travis... Travis could not. "NO!!" He yelled. He charged at Katelyn, pushing her out of the way of the Turquoise's attack. As the two of them spun in the air, they fused into Indicolite for the first time. "Wha..." The raw fushion examined their newly formed body and the two gems in their palms. "What...!?" Onlooking Gems gasped, horrified. They muttered among themselves. "What... What is this?" The Turquoise, amazed, looked on, but shook it off and prepared to attack. He was stopped by the Amethyst. "Wait! This is... Hm?" The other Gems noticed him and began to approach, ignoring Indicolite. "...Let's go." The Turquoise nodded. "Uh... Bye!" He exclaimed to the crowd before the two rebels jump away. "Is this...?" Suddenly, Indicolite unfuses into Katelyn and Travis. The furious crowd closed in around the two. They'd never seen fusion of two different types of gems. Various Gems began to shout rude things at the two. Blue Diamond's voice cut through the crowd. "The rebels have fled. Katelyn, this was not the scenario you described!" She exclaimed. "This is... not what I saw! I don't know what happened, I..." The confused Calcite trailed off. "No! It was me!" Travis said, protecting the Katelyn. "Clearly. How dare you fuse with a member of my court!" Blue Diamond yelled. "Forgive me, I-" The Howlite guard was cut off. "You shall be broken for this!" The crowd of Gems began to close in on them, but Katelyn grabbed Travis' hand and dashed off with him. "Waaaiiit!! What are you doooiiing!? Nooo!!" Travis protested. The two of them disappeared into the clouds. Katelyn and Travis landed at the base of a mountain, where it was raining heavily. "Ugh, why'd you do that!? I have to get you back up there!" Travis yelled. "They were gonna break you." Katelyn said. "Who cares!? There's tons of me!" The Howlite exclaimed. Travis looked up at the rain and the area around the mountain. He groaned in panic. "Gahh! What do we do now!?" He yelled into the nothingness. Katelyn had known every moment of her life. How it would happen, and when. But because of Travis' impulsive gesture, she suddenly jumped the track of fate and everything from that instant on was wrong and new. She couldn't see. She couldn't move. Yet, she was... happy. Ice began to form around hrr. "Ah! We have to get you.. out of here!" The Howlite exclaimed. Travis stood behind Katelyn, grabbed her, and pulled her out of the ice. Travis, carrying Katelyn, looked back for a moment. "Come on." He mumbled under his breath. Travis carried Katelyn away from the mountain and into a nearby cave. Travis set him down there and examined the area. "Alright, this should be good for now." He mumbled. Katelyn sat down and ran her hand through her hair, revealing a single eye. "Thank you..." She said. Travis looked at her, stunned speechless. Fire started forming around his feet. He stomped out of the flames, startled. They made a fire and the two warmed up beside it, but Travis kept pacing. "What kind of Howlite am I supposed to be? Look at this! It's my fault you're stranded here. How am I gonna save you?" Travis panicked. "You already did." Katelyn said. "What!?" The confused guard exclaimed. "You already saved me." Katelyn said again. Travis sniffled and sat down next to the fire, still perturbed. The two remained silent for a moment, thinking about the fusion they performed. Travis stared at his gem and Katelyn's gem for a while. "I... I've seen gems fuse before, but I had no idea that's what it felt like. I always thought... I never realized that fusion... that'd you'd disappear like that." Katelyn said, trying to make conversation. "It's never like that! Whenever I've fused, it's always just been me, but bigger, I... I've never had a three eyes before." Travis said. "I've never had more than one! It was nice." Katelyn said with a small grin. Travis blushed. "Ha... Yeah..." He returned the smile. Katelyn and Travis later leave the cave, as the sun is coming up and it is no longer raining.
(Just imagine it's them, 'kay?)

They fused into Indicolite once more. Not used to this form, Indicolite stumbled about. They were back; they were someone and they didn't know who. But they felt they was getting the hang of their strange new form. ... And then they fell. Raw Indicolite tripped and rolled down a hill. "... Ouch." Was all they had to say to that. Suddenly, a sword was pointed at Raw Indicolite's face. They recoiled back towards the hill. "Ah! Don't hurt her! Don't hurt... me?" He said, slightly confused. Then, Indicolite realized something. The sword bearer was a rebel, the Turquoise. "It's you! The fushion..." He said. "We didn't mean to fuse! Well... well, we did this time. We'll unfuse! We, we'll..." Indicolite stuttered. Another Gem approached the group. "No, no, please... I'm glad to see you again. Garroth, put down your sword!" The Amethyst whispered. And there they were: Irene the Amethyst, the leader of the rebellion, and his terrifying renegade Turquoise, Garroth. "I don't upset you?" The confused fushion asked. "Who cares about how I feel? How you feel is bound to be much more interesting." Irene said. "How I feel? I feel... uh, lost... and scared... and happy. W-why am I so sure that I'd rather be this than everything I was supposed to be, and that I'd rather do this than anything I was supposed to do?" Indicolite asked, scared. Irene let out a laugh. "Welcome to Earth." She said. "C-can you tell me!? How was Travis able to alter fate? Or, why was Katelyn willing to give up everything? W-what am I!?" Indicolite asked, desperate to know. "No more questions. Don't ever question this." Irene holds Indicolite's hand. "You already are the answer."

-Back to real time-

"So...? What was it?" Aphmau asks. Indicolite raises an eyebrow. "The answer." She clarifies. "Love." They whisper. "Wow... I knew it." She says with a smile. "So did I."
