Chapter 81 - Don't do that

"I'm gonna get some help Charlie" I say as I go to get up.

"I could get to know you" She says grabbing my arm to stop me.

"You don't wanna remember all our memories? Remember everything about our family?" I ask.

"Would it hurt anyone if I don't remember?" She asks.

"It would hurt the whole family, we all have some amazing memories, I'm gonna get help" I say and get up.

"Don't go dad, don't go" She says quickly.

"So now you're calling me dad" I say giving her a strange look.

"You are my dad, you adopted me, Aaron adopted my brothers, my parents are dead, one of my best friends is pregnant, I was kidnapped by a guy who lied to me about pretty much everything-" I interrupt her.

"Woah woah woah woah, slow down, do you mean to say that you were playing with me?" I ask trying to work everything out.

"I thought it would be funny" She says.

"You're grounded until you're 80, ok, I thought you were being for real, I was heartbroken that you couldn't remember me, don't do that again Charlie" I say a little frustrated.

"Sorry dad, but hey, I was convincing" She says with a grin.

"Yeah, and that was the worst part, you had me convinced" I say.

"Ok, I'm sorry, I won't mess around like that again" She says.

"I'm gonna go find a doctor, see what happens with you from now" I say and go find a doctor.

"Is Charlie awake now Zak?" Caleb asks as he spots me.

"Yeah, I was just finding a doc to see what will happen next" I say.

"Cool, I'll page someone" He says.

"Thanks man" I say and go back to Charlie.

"Dad?" Charlie calls.

"Yeah, what is it?" I ask as I sit down.

"Can I walk?" She asks.

"I dunno, Caleb has gone to get a doctor, you were out of it for 2 months, that's a long time to not be on your feet" I explain.

"Can I try?" She asks.

"Yeah but when the doctor gets here" I say and hold her hand.

"I'm sorry about pretending I lost my memory, I thought you'd laugh about it instead of getting mad at me for it" She says.

"I wasn't mad at you, it's just, you've barely been out of a coma for 12 hours and you tried to do something for a laugh, at the wrong time, you know, that's what got me worried" I say.

"Hello Charlie, how are you feeling?" A male doctor asks as he enters with Caleb.

"Well I'm finally awake and talking, I just wanna walk now, and go home as soon as I can if possible" She says.

"Sweetie, you can't rush your recovery, you're not well, you need to take things easy" I say.

"Your dad is right Charlie, you've been in a coma for 2 months, you're not gonna recover completely overnight" The doc says.

"Can I at least try walking?" She asks.

"Yeah sure, you can try, let me just unhook your wires, you don't need them now anyway, you can eat and drink now" He says. He takes her IV drip off and everything else.
