Clarity of thought gradually returned and he found that by standing up the whole membrane comfortably enveloped his body - creating a safe environmental capsule, though of course he did not know this yet. Nor did he yet realise that he had just successfully moved from one universal space to another by way of countless dimensions unfathomable to his primitive brain.
After some time and many turns of sitting cross-legged and lying down and looking at the unfamiliar sight around him, at last he tried walking. The effect was peculiar - walk too fast and his bare feet dug into the elastic membrane, stretching but not rupturing it. It was best to walk slowly, then the whole bubble seemed to go with him, flexing and changing according to his movements and body position, but whenever he stopped and was standing upright, the envelope assumed a roughly spherical shape and seemed to contract a little.
In this manner he navigated himself and his attendant capsule along what he discovered to be a dimly lit cavern.
