"How long do I have?" I ask the doctor
"I don't know." The doctor said
Sherlock pulled me closer as more tears streamed from my eyes.
"I can tell you that you will live longer if you get surgery to remove most if not all of the tumor." The doctor said
"Then if I get the surgery, how long will I have then?" I ask
"It depends on how the surgery goes, but I will guess from a month to ten years." The doctor replied
" I'll have the surgery." I say
"Okay, the surgeon gets here at eight tomorrow morning." The doctor said writing on a clip board and leaving the room.
"Mum you look tired." I said seeing that she was yawning quite a bit
"I'm fine dearie." She said yawning again
"You should go home and get some sleep." I told her
"C'mon ill take you home" mike said
"Are you sure?" She asked
"Yeah ill be fine, besides Sherlock is staying with me." I replied
"I'll take your word for it." She said yawning yet again
"See you tomorrow." Mike said
"See you tomorrow." I replied as they exited shutting the door behind them.
"You're not going to sleep, are you?" I asked Sherlock
"No, when there is so much thinking to be done." He said kicking off his shoes and putting his feet on the bed
"You're worried aren't you?" I ask
"Is it really that obvious?" Sherlock asked
"You are worried." I concluded
"Of course I'm worried." He said
He turned at pulled my head to his chest, he kissed the top of my head.
I felt the tears come back to my eyes as I said, "I'm going to die Sherlock."
"Don't talk like that Iris." He said looking into my eyes
"Well it's true." I said
"Don't think like that, you are going to have a long life, we will grow old together." Sherlock said putting his hand on my face
A fresh wave of tears spilled from my eyes.
Sherlock pulled me into a hug, "you should get some rest." Sherlock said running his fingers through my hair.
"Okay." I said using his chest for a pillow
"I love you." He said kissing the top of my head
"I love you too." I said hugging him and falling asleep
I woke up to the sound of my mum entering the door, I was still using Sherlock's chest for a pillow, and he still had his arms around me. I yawned and sat up.
"How are you feeling dear?" My mum asked
"I'm not." I say smacking my feet and laughing once
"You shouldn't laugh about that dear, it's not decent." Said my mum
Sherlock sat up and stretched
"I think you fell asleep Sherlock." I said poking his arm
"What makes you say that?" He asked
"Well first of all you were snoring, and secondly you don't think when your face is pressed into a pillow." I said
"Alright you caught me." Sherlock said
"No it's fine you're allowed to sleep." I said
"I know." Sherlock said
I just rolled my eyes, the doctor walked in
"Are you ready for your surgery?" The doctor asked
"I guess so." I said a little unsure
"I'll come and get you in fifteen minutes." The doctor said exiting the room
"Fifteen minutes." I said out loud to myself
"You'll be fine." Sherlock said trying to cheer me up
I said nothing but smiled as he kissed my forehead
"Just think, after the surgery you will probably be able to walk again, then I can chase you around the house like old times." Mike said playfully slugging my arm
"One of my guardians in America, the dad one, his name was mike." I said to mike.
"Copying my name, is he?" Mike said sarcastically
I just rolled my eyes.
"Everything will be fine." My mum says
"I sure hope so." I said
The doctor came in with two nurses.
"You ready?" She asked
"Yeah." I said
One of the nurses brought a wheelchair in.
Sherlock picked me up and set me down on the wheel chair.
"I love you." He said kissing me.
"I love you too." I said as the nurses wheeled me out of the room.
The surgery didn't get over for four hours, even after that I didn't even wake up for another hour.
When I woke up I was laying on my stomach on the hospital bed, my face was through a hole in the bed.
I sighed loudly.
"Good afternoon sunshine." Sherlock said putting his face where I could see it.
"How did it go?" I asked yawning
"As far as I can tell it went great." He said smiling
"That's good." I said
"How do you feel?" He asked
"Tired." I said yawning
I felt something touch my foot.
"Whoever is tickling me cut it out. Wait I can feel my feet! I can feel my feet!" I said excitedly
I heard the door shut as the doctor entered the room.

"The surgery went well, we removed a 160 gram tumor from your back, but there was a small portion we couldn't get to. But it should remain dormant for a long time." The doctor said.
"So I'll have a long life?" I asked
"Yes. And in a week, your recovery period will be over and you can go home." The doctor said smiling
"Good." I said smiling
A week later I got home and packed my things, I was moving into Sherlock's house into the room next to his.
The room wasn't as big as Sherlock's but it was still roomy and quite chilly.
That night I got under the sheets and the thick comforter to be warm while I slept. But no matter how many layers I put on I was still freezing. I was desperate it was so cold, so I got up and walked out the door into the hallway. Then I slowly pushed open Sherlock's door, he was thinking, he turned and looked at me.
"It's so cold in there, can I sleep in here?" I asked
"Sure, sorry forgot to tell you that the thermostat is broken in there so there isn't any heat." He said
I gently shut his door then crawled under the covers next to him. I completely buried my self in his blankets.
"Goodness you really were cold." He said scooting closer to me.
"Yeah it was freezing in there." I said
"You can sleep in here whenever you want." He said getting under the covers
"Sherlock you are warm." I said snuggling close to him
"And you are not. Get over here." He said pulling me against him
"Thankyou." I said
"Your welcome, now go to sleep love." He said kissing the top of my head.

A month later Sherlock found some minor cases, and was kept busy. He always took me wherever he went. Until one day I woke up sick, I was very pale and I was having trouble breathing, Sherlock took me to the doctor.
"I can't tell what it is from just this, I'll do a blood test and an MRI." The doctor said
We sat patiently and waited for the test results.
"It appears your tumor has spread, it has grown around the nerves going to your heart and lungs." The doctor said
"What does that mean? Can't you just take it out?" I asked
"If we take it out we would have to damage your nerves, if your nerves are damaged there is little chance of survival." The doctor said
"So what do I do now." I said
"This should come and go like a cold, but if it doesn't come and see me." The doctor said excusing us
She gave me some pills that were supposed to help on the way out.
When we got home Sherlock carried me to his bed, then he went to make me some tea. When he returned, he found me crying. He quickly put the tea down on the dresser and ran to me.
"Iris, what's the matter?" He asked putting his arms around me
"I'm going to die Sherlock." I said pressing my face into his chest.
"No, no, no you're not. You're going to be fine." He said rocking me gently
"Sherlock, I am going to die. I'm not going to the university. I'm not even going to live till our wedding day." I said crying into his shirt
"Iris, don't talk like that. Our wedding is in a month, of coarse you'll be alive for that." He said
"No, no I won't, and that's why we need to focus on your career. When I'm gone, I'm going to send you my skull, so you'll never be alone on your cases, and you'll always have me with you." I said
"Iris, you're going to be fine." He said looking me in the eye
I said nothing but hugged Sherlock, I hugged him for the rest of the day.
The next day I felt better like the doctor said, it came and went like a cold.
