Nigel was your fiancé.

He was away at war and you missed him dearly. You wrote letters t  him every week, but suddenly his responses stopped. It worried you.

When you came home from working at the factories one day, you discovered a letter from the British Royal Army at your doorstep. You seemingly forgot to breathe as you went inside and opened the letter.

It as a Missing In Action form.

Sobbing, you clutched a photo of Nigel to your chest. You couldn't believe the news.

Today was the day those left in the British Royal Army returned to their families. You had been so excited to go to the train station, but you never received a letter saying to void the MIA.

Nigel was gone.

It was late at night when you heard a knock on your door. You pulled on a robe and answered.

It was Nigel.

"N-Nigel. I don't understand! They said you were missing! I got a-"

"The letter was a fake." Nigel grinned, hugging you tightly.

"I wanted to surprise you." He kissed your cheek.
