Plot: You, secretly a telepath, lose a loved one. Describe what it feels like to no longer hear their thoughts. (taken from writing-prompt-s on Tumblr)

I had to have been staring at the wall for hours. It didn't take me long to realize what happened. I could no longer hear their stupid jokes echoing through my head. The laughter and joy was replaced by a cold silence. What used to keep me going throughout the day, was missing.

I looked in the mirror. My skin was as pale as a moon beam. I looked different, like you could tell that I was missing something. Part of me was missing. I tried with all my might to try and pick up even the quietest of noise, but I was greeted with cold nothingness each time.

When I was finally able to stand without my legs giving out like limp noodles, I tried to walk to my front door. Maybe, maybe I was to far away. Maybe they went out of range. I was in denial. I knew they were gone. I knew that they were never coming back. Part of me wanted to believe I was wrong. Part of me wanted to follow my other half, the one who left me.

I made it to my couch before collapsing onto it. I was able to reach my phone, hoping for news, any news. I tried calling them, but no answer.

"Of course not." I chided myself, "They died."

Finally, I checked my texts. I had ignored a good portion of them. They weren't important. I scrolled through, until I found it. One text. One text was all that was left. It had one simple word.

"Goodbye."

That was all. A simple goodbye. I didn't want to face the lifetime of silence. It seemed like only moments ago that I was hearing a stupid pun about steaks.

"Hey, did you know a steak pun is a rare medium well done?"

Those were their last words. Oh how I groaned, how I wished the puns would stop. I'd trade all my powers just to hear them say one thing, anything. I closed my eyes, hoping the silence would end, maybe then I could join them. Maybe then, I could be whole again.
