"I left it at home."

when I met him again today
it was unexpected-
a small corner in an isolated café.
where once there were smiles and sparks
I looked at him once
and everything numbed my heart.
I forced a greeting and he walked toward me
he plastered surprise on his face
(a face I didn't ever want to see)

and he said "Hey, it's been long, how are you?"
"Better after you left."
and that part was true.
he left me quivering at midnight
and told me he didn't care.
"You weren't like this before, where'd you leave your heart?"
he said.
and my reply?

"On the coffee table,
along with your old house keys-
the night you tore me apart."
