Some people might be a little more sensitive than others so I have marked the very sad photos because there are some in here that will make you cry.

"The Afghan Girl" by Steve McCurry appeared on the cover of National Geographic in June 1985. McCurry never knew the girl's name and therefore called the picture "the Afghan Girl" as she was an Afghan refugee in Pakistan.

Years later, McCurry decided to go back to Pakistan to find her. He eventually met a man who went to school with her in the camp where McCurry took the photo. He told him that her name was Sharbat Gula and that she moved back to Afghanistan. He brought her to McCurry. After seventeen years he finally knew her name.

She was an orphan from the mountains of Afghanistan who fled the dangerous country with her brother. She is now married with three daughters
Sharbat and her husband wish that somehow their girls can get a better education than they themselves have, so that they might have a better future.
