Nothing Lasts

You popped into my life captivating my heart

Spinning me around in the excitement of your words

The simplicity of a muttered hello

Dripping off your perfect lips always sent chills down my spine

Nothing else mattered but to feel you near

You were my escape, my hero, my joy

I would have given up everything to make us last

But too afraid to let you see the real me

In the end causing you to leave.

Now I lay here hurting

Curled up in a crumbled ball

Arms wrapped around my tear soaked pillow

Holding my breath to stop the sobbing

Watching the clock flash as the hours drift by

All I know is nothing lasts

But the pain of giving you up is more than I can take

I punish myself, but replaying those words

They now haunt me in both slumber and reality

Tattooed across my soul “You can’t do this anymore”

My heart to bare the pain alone.

I know in time the hurt will fade

You words will become faint memories

I will learn and heal from my own mistakes

Building back up the wall around me

Knowing that the next time

I will be stronger, wiser

Ready to fight for the love that is mine

Keeping my old demons locked inside
