Chapter 42

As soon as I walked in the door with Mae and Jerome following, Tulips ran over. "Ryder!" she said.

"Hello, birthday girl," I said, bending down to give her a hug. "I can't believe you're eight already. It feels like we just celebrated your seventh birthday."

"I know," she said with a smile. "And now I can be the center of attention. Like always."

I chuckled. "You are starting to get very arrogant. Good job keeping up the Prince charm."

"Don't praise her," Alan said. "She's getting even more annoying than me and Orchid."

       "What about Nolan?" Tulip asked.

"He stopped being annoying once he got a boyfriend," Alan muttered, crossing his arms over his chest. "The three of us don't hang out anymore like we used to, so thanks a lot Jerome."

"It's not his fault," Nolan said. "It's yours. Every single time I suggest we do something, like play video games or watch a movie, you just laugh in my face."

"Because you don't like video games," Alan said.

"Yeah, I do," Nolan said. "Well, now I do. You just don't give me the chance to prove it because, like I said, you laugh in my face."

       "Whatever," Alan said.

"I love you, Alan," Nolan said.

"Yeah, I love you too," Alan said.

Mom came down the stairs with Rose and as soon as Rose spotted Mae, she ran over as fast as she could with her one-year-old legs. "Mae!" she said happily, then holding her arms up.

Mae smiled and picked up Rose. "Hi, Rose," she said.

"You know, I think she likes you more than she likes me," I said.

      "Don't be ridiculous," Mae said.

"Hey, Rose, do you like your big brother Ryder or Mae more?" I asked.

      "Mae!" Rose said.

"That's only because Mae is easier to say than Ryder for a one-year-old," Mae said.

"Whatever you say," I said before walking over to the couch and sitting on it. Mae walked over as well and sat beside me.

Stitch soon came to the living room and quickly ran over and climbed on top of me. I smiled and rubbed Stitch's fur. "I need to get my own pet otter," I said. "But nothing can top you, can it Stitch?"

"You're not taking him back," Dad said. "He's mine now."

"Yes, because you're so desperate for his affection," I said.

"What? I'm not....Flower, tell your son that I'm not desperate," Dad said.

Mom raised an eyebrow. "My son? He's our son."

"Not anymore, he isn't," Dad said. "I'm disowning him. You could raise him all by yourself now. I want nothing to do with that bag of snot."

"Hurtful," I said. "Fine, be that way. But when Mae and I finally have babies, you won't be able to see them."

"I'll see them if I want," Dad said. "You can't stop me. Flower, tell your son to stop giving me sass."

"I can't stop," I said. "I'm as sassy as they come. It's your fault anyway. Didn't you use to call me your baby clone?"

"Not anymore," Dad said. "I don't like you anymore."

"That's fine, because I always liked Mom more than I liked you," I said.

"Yeah, I hate to disagree, but you didn't," Mom said. "You used to cry when he went off to work and wouldn't stop crying until you saw him."

"Aww, that's so cute," Mae said.

"No, it wasn't," I said. "Because now my dad is a jerk. Dad, you're not disowning me. I'm getting emancipated."

"You can't, you're eighteen," Dad said. "You're already living on your own and you're married. I'm still disowning you, though."

       "Good," I said.

One thing I liked about my dad was that we never got mad at each other. We were able to joke around like this all the time and while it may look like we were being serious, we really weren't.

"Okay, you two, stop arguing," Mom said. "I've got to go start dinner anyway. Anyone want to help?"

"I will," Orchid said before following Mom into the kitchen.

Grandpa and Grandma shortly arrived and they both gave Tulip a hug and wished her a happy birthday.

Grandma sat down on one of the couches, but Grandpa just sighed. "There's no room for an elderly man like me," he said. "Alright, children. Make room for the best grandfather ever."

"Yeah, Nolan, make some room for your awesome grandfather," Jerome said.

"And why are you telling me to?" Nolan asked.

"So you can sit on my lap," Jerome said. "That, or you can sit on the floor."

"I'd rather sit on the floor," Nolan said.

"Why are you always so mean to me?" Jerome asked. "I'm the best boyfriend ever and you treat me like this?"

"I'm just kidding," Nolan said. "Well, kind of. I'm still sitting on the floor." He got up from the couch and sat down on the floor in front of where Jerome was sitting. Jerome frowned and slightly kicked Nolan. "Get over it."

"I don't know why I bother," Jerome said. "You Princes are all so mean to me."

"Says the one who ate my bacon once," I said. "Mae locked me in the bathroom so I couldn't kill you."

"It wasn't my fault I wanted bacon and there was one pack left," Jerome said.

"You could have went to the store," I said. "It isn't too far away from the apartment."

"But I was lazy," Jerome said.

"So was I when I wanted to eat bacon, but you ate it all," I said.

       Jerome shrugged. "Same thing."

Lol, another chapter today. cx I think this book will end sometime next week, especially if I get at least one chapter up per day.

I love being evil in my books. cx So, what do you think will happen in the epilogue and why will Ryder be crying in it?
