Chapter 46
To take a breather before the next round of Internationals tomorrow, Jerome, Mae, all of my siblings but William, and I were heading to Mount Royal, especially because it was close to the hotel we were staying at so we were able to walk there.
I think being in a city away from Miami was making Nolan feel a lot more comfortable with his sexuality because he had no problem holding Jerome's hand as we walked down the street, something he never did in Miami.
Mom and Dad packed some snacks for us and while Mae was carrying the bag, Tulip kept trying to open it. She did at one point without Mae noticing, so I had to tell her to wait until we got to the park.
As soon as we got there and found a place to sit, Tulip opened the bag and began digging around for some food. She finally came up with a small bag of chips.
I placed Rose on the ground and she immediately sat down on Mae's lap.
"This brings back memories," I said.
"Of what?" Mae asked.
"Me running away here because you were ignoring me," I said. "And when I got here, you lied about hanging out with your old teammates just so you could hang out with someone and you said you might still have feelings for him so I was left heartbroken."
Mae sighed. "You're never going to let that go, are you?"
"Nope," I said.
"Mae, that's so rude," Jerome said. "You thought you still had feelings for me when you were dating Ryder? That's so mean."
"It was only because Ryder was in Miami and you were here and those feelings weren't real, so how about you stop talking about it?" Mae said.
Jerome shrugged. "It's your loss. You don't know what you're missing."
"I do know what I'm missing, and I'm glad I'm married to Ryder," Mae said.
"Hurtful," Jerome said. "Nolan, Mae is being mean to me."
"That's because you're really annoying," Nolan said. "I don't even know why I like you anymore."
"I don't get it," Jerome said. "I am the nicest person alive and everyone is always so mean to me."
"Nah, you're straight up annoying," Tulip said.
"Yeah? Well, you're argument is invalid because you don't even like me," Jerome said.
"That's because you're invalid," Tulip said.
"Ooh, you savage," I said. "Jerome, you gonna take that? Because I think you should give up now because my whole family knows how to bring it."
Jerome sighed and laid down on the grass. "I give up trying to be part of this family. You're too much of savages for me."
"You know, you can be part of this family in two years and four months," Alan said. "Hint, hunt. Nudge, nudge."
"You forgot the wink, wink," Orchid said.
"Ah, yes," Alan said. "Can't forget the wink, wink."
"Or the cough, cough," I added.
"I think they're hinting at something," Mae said.
"No, really?" Jerome asked. "I did not know that from all the winking and the nudging. Hey, Nolan, want to get married?"
Nolan snorted. "Ask me again when I'm eighteen and I might say yes."
"Might?" Jerome asked.
"Yes, I might," Nolan said. "But I'm serious. Stop talking about marriage when I'm only fifteen."
"Nolan, don't be rude," Alan said. "We all want him to be our brother-in-law. Well, except Tulip."
"Because I don't like him," Tulip said. "Hey, Mae, where are the igloos?"
Mae furrowed her eyebrows. "What?"
"We're in Canada," Tulip said. "I don't see any igloos. Or even snow."
Mae chuckled. "Tulip, you do realize that it doesn't snow all year long in Canada, right? And we don't even live in igloos."
"Exactly," Jerome said. "We do, however, bathe in maple syrup while our pet beavers go ice-fishing. Ooh, and sometimes, our beavers train our moose to beckon of our calls."
"Sure, fill Tulip's mind with even more stereotypes," Mae said.
"I'm kidding," Jerome said. "Well, part of me is. I did bathe in maple syrup once. I don't recommend it."
"Did you actually?" Nolan asked.
Jerome sighed. "Yeah, it was a dare. Although, I didn't really have to give proof. I just said I did it and they believed me."
"Then why didn't you lie about it?" Nolan said.
"Because I wanted an excuse to bathe in maple syrup," Jerome said. "Obviously."
"I really don't understand you at times," Nolan said.
"No one ever does," Mae said.
"Well, yeah, I know that," Nolan said. "I just thought I would understand him most of the time because I am his boyfriend but nope. Most of the time, I don't understand half of the things that he does or says." Nolan then looked at Jerome. "Why are you so confusing?"
"It's fun," Jerome said with a smile. "I like seeing the confused look on everyone's faces when they don't understand me."
"Yeah, I can see that," Nolan said.
