Days turn to weeks and weeks turn to a month. That means it’s halfway through April. Most of my days consisted of school, homework and Cody. Everything is good. My parents are back home. It’s normal. Something I longed for since the night of the party.
I drop my books on a library table and sit next to Leah. She’s rushing to get all of the homework she didn’t do, done. But she pauses and looks up at me.
“You heard about the party tonight?” I nod; it was just another Friday night party. “Are you going?”
“Wasn’t planning on it.” I say honestly.
“What about Cody?”
“He left this morning to go to the city with Noel for a concert. They won’t be back until Sunday.” I shrug and start doodling on my page.
“Come with me then!” She says excitedly.
“I don’t know...”
“Please?” I can’t say no to her.
“Fine.” I give in.
“You won’t regret this!” She squeals. I think I already do.
I don’t wear anything special; just a pair of black short shorts, a pink tank-top and knee high converse boots. I add some eyeliner and mascara to my face and straighten my hair. I slip my cell into my pocket before heading out the door. I wish Cody was here; hell even Noel.
I drive to the party. When I get there, there are already so many people here. The music pumps threw the house. People dance and yell and drink.
I don’t feel like I belong here anymore.
I wander around the party, looking for Leah. I step out into the back yard but instead of Leah, I find Carter. He sees me and walks over.
“Hey, where’s the boyfriend?” He asks, I roll my eyes.
“Not here. He’s out of town.” I look away.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea to come here alone?” I look back to him when I hear the concern in his voice.
“I have Leah. Well if I ever find her. I didn’t even want to come.” I pause. “And it’s just a party.”
“Just be careful.” I nod and turn back to the house. I walk into the living room. Everyone is dancing. A hand grabs my wrist. I turn and to see Leah. She pulls me into the crowd of dancing teens.
After a minute, I get lost in the music. Dancing with anyone and everyone. I forgot how fun it could be. I dance my way through the crowd of people until I run into Carter.
“Hey!” I shout over the music while swaying my hips. “Dance with me!” He hesitates.
“Are you drunk?” He asks and I laugh.
“Nope!” I shout. Before he can say anything else I grab his hands and place them on my waist, swaying even more to the music. We dance this way for awhile. Then a slow song starts to play. I pull away from Carter but with his hands on my waist he pulls me back to him.
“It’s just a slow dance, Morgan.” He smirks. I place my hands around his neck. Nothing wrong with slow dancing, I tell myself.
Carters POV
I want to pull her closer. But I know I’m lucky to have her this close. She is beautiful tonight; her blond hair is straightened perfectly, her brown eyes are sparkling and her smile comes easily. She’s not normally this way around me.
I can’t believe she didn’t bring Cody with her. There practically inseparable at school. And since Cody pretty much lives at her their house, there always together.
She was right.
I would fall for her before she would fall for me.
Stupid me.
Without even thinking about it; I take my fingers and brush her hair behind her ear. I hear her breath catch.
“Carter...” Her voice trails off.
“Sorry.” I mutter.
“Did you just...apologize?” She asks, wide eyed.
“Yeah?” I say but it sounds like a question. I even surprised myself. It’s Morgan, she makes me different. Her phone starts to go off, she pulls it out of her pocket.
“I have to go! See you.” She tells me then presses her phone to her ear and runs out of the house. I’m left standing there alone.
“You shouldn’t do that to her.” Someone says behind me. I turn around and it’s Leah.
“Do what?” I ask. Leah is wearing a black low cut t-shirt and mini skirt that makes her red hair stand out.
“Play with her like that. She has a boyfriend and she doesn’t need you to mess anything up.” She glares at me.
“I’m not trying to mess anything up!” I defend myself.
“Then why can’t you just leave her alone?!” She pauses, “Wait...you really do like her don’t you?” She demands.
“Don’t tell her.” I say quickly.
“Trust me. I won’t. She already likes Cody anyway.” As soon as she says that I want to tell her she might not always be with Cody. But I stay silent and she walks away from me.
