i stared at my book as i felt millie's eyes staring at me the whole class.
as soon as it was over i tried to walk away without millie noticing, i really didn't want to talk to her after last night.

"hey finn, wait up!" i heard her say

i turned around slowly and flashed a smile as soon as i saw her face.

"hi," i said as she approached

"wanna go grab some coffee?"

i nodded and smiled, she walked ahead of me towards her car.

i went to grab my keys and remembered that my car broke down two weeks ago and was still in the shop.

"hey, um- my car is being repaired, mind if i ride with you?" i stuttered

"yeah, sure,"

•••

millie walked ahead of me into the coffee shop.

"how can i help you?" the barista asked us

"yes, i would like a regular—," she was cut off by the screams of the other people

i looked behind me and quickly threw the table up to sheild me and millie.
she had a worried look on her face.

"what- who- what's going on?" she whispered

"there's a shooter," i said calmly, trying not to frighten her

i peeked my head up to see where the man was, and he was standing over by the cash register.

"put the money in the bag!" he yelled

i looked back down at millie, "stay here,"

i crawled behind another table, but closer to the shooter.
i snunk up behind him and kicked his leg in, causing him to fall.
his gun slid out of his hand and on to the floor.
he went to reach for it, but i stepped on his arm.

"millie, call the police,"

i was checked by the ems and then i was called over for questions.

"so," the officer looked at his paper, "finn, what exactly happened?"

"well officer," i squited at his name tag, "heaton, me and a friend were having coffee when the man came in, i saw the gun in his hand and threw the table over and hid behind it. then once he was at the register, i snunk up and took him down."

"okay, everyone's story matches, your good to go,"

i walked back towards the ambulance where millie was being check at.

"how are you?" i asked

"i'm good, i'm okay."

"okay, that's good,"

"h-how did you do that? i mean weren't you scared?" she asked honestly
