Kara jumped at the loud pounding on her door. But it wasn't any old knock, it was her and Alex's special knock. Three quick, three slow, and repeat until the door gets opened. It's only to be used in case of an emergency, so it hasn't been used in years.

"Alex," she cooed as she saw her distraught looking sister standing in her doorway. "Hey, what happened?"

"Sh- She broke up with me, Kara. I'm so stupid. Why did I trust her?" Alex was pacing around Kara's apartment, shaking her head. "I'm so stupid. I can't believe I let her in. I should know better, shouldn't I?"

"Alex. Look at me. You aren't stupid. I promise. You're the smartest woman I know, and I know Cat Grant. If you can't see that, you must be blind. Alex, you're my big sister. I love you. I idolize you. I don't get how you haven't figured that out by now. Not all superheroes wear capes, y'know. Mine doesn't."

Alex shook her head, slowly lowering herself onto the couch. "Kara, please don't," she sobbed.

Kara sat the couch beside her older sister, wrapping the sobbing woman in her arms. It put her in physical pain to see her sister so visibly upset. She hated it, especially when Alex was always her rock. "Alex. I love you. I'm calling Maggie, okay? She's gonna know what to do."

Alex nodded, too tired to fight with Kara on why she didn't want the girl she once had a crush on to come over for relationship advice. Kara reached for Alex's phone from off the coffee table, unlocking it. It helped that the two of them knew each other's passwords, especially in times like these.

"Maggie? Yeah, Alex is upset. Can you come over? Great, thanks." Turning to Alex, she said, "She's on her way."

"Th- Thanks, Kara."

The door rings a mere minutes later, with an out of breath Maggie on the other side. "I ran here as fast as I could. What happened, Danvers?" Maggie looked at Alex with her signature head tilt, making Alex sob even harder.

"Sh- She broke up with me," Alex muttered. "I should've seen it coming. I'm such an idiot. God, why do I get so attached to everyone? I'm like a little, clingy baby."

Maggie ran over to embrace her best friend. "Alex. You're perfect, and anyone who can't see that is the idiot." Alex shook her head while Maggie nodded. Maggie sat back on the couch, pulling Alex down so she was laying on Maggie's chest, listening to her heartbeat.

Alex's sobs gradually turned to whimpers as she cried herself to sleep. When Maggie was sure that she was out, she slipped out from underneath of her and walked over to Kara.

"I assume she went through a nasty breakup?"

"Yeah. Look at these," Kara said, handing Maggie Alex's phone with some messages from Alex's now ex-girlfriend.

"Death threats!?" Maggie screeched, her face turning right over to Alex, who was still sound asleep on the couch. Lowering her voice, she continued. "I'm gonna kill her. Wait, no. That would make me as bad as her. God, I want to punch the bitch."

Kara just nodded. "Yeah."

When Alex woke up the next morning, she was still on Kara's couch, in the clothes she was wearing the previous day. She lifted her head and saw Maggie asleep in the chair next to her. Her hand was squeezing Alex's gently, and she did not look comfortable.

"Maggie?" she mumbled, wiping the sleepiness out of her eyes. "Shit! I have to go to her house."

"No you don't, Alex. Kara called the police. She can't hurt you anymore."

Alex's eyes widened.

"Danvers, did you really think we haven't seen the signs? The bruises? The way you were limping around on a clearly sprained ankle?"

"I loved her. She loved me, she just got angry."

"Alex, she had no right to hurt you like that, she-"

"It doesn't matter. It was all my fault, anyways."

"No! Alex, it wasn't your fault, I promise. Can- Can I see your bruises?"

Alex nodded and lifted up her shirt, revealing her stomach that was covered in many different coloured bruises. "I'm sorry for not telling you."

"No, no, Alex..." she cooed, stroking her friend's hair. "You're gonna be okay. You're safe now."

"Thank you, Maggie."

"Of course, Danvers."
