Aunt Kindle's Shack•Day 1•11:17
The inside of the restaurant smelled wonderful. There was a mix of chicken, soup, fresh bread, eggs, bacon, grits, and coffee.
This only made my stomach growl louder.
The entire place had a countryish, woodyish, homey feel. There where tables scattered around the room. Only six of the tables were occupied.
A sign at the entrance signaled that I seat myself, So I looked around for a table. I hear the bell behind me ring as someone opens the door. I sit down at a small table and someone sits in front of me.
He looked maybe twenty-five. He had scruff that followed his jaw line. He had red hair that was longer in the front that on the back and sides. It stood up and had been brushed back. His eyes were green, which looked really good with his hair. Needless to say, he was cute.
As I went to ask what he thought he was doing sitting at my table the waitress walked up. "You to together?" She asked.
"N-"
"yes we are." He said. His voice wasn't as deep as I expected. It was smooth and soft. I glared at him.
"Ok, what would you like to drink?" She asked.
"I'll take a coke." He said.
"Same here." I said. The waitress nodded and walked off.
I snap my head back at the man.
"And what do you think you are doing?" I asked clearly annoyed.
He rest his elbows on the table.
"What? I can't sit down and eat with a cute girl?" He asked with a small smirk. It looked good on him.
"Flattery doesn't work here. Take it somewhere else." I said stubbornly. I lean back in my chair crossing my arm.
"I think I'll stay here." He said calmly.
I huff. I really didn't need to be getting attached to some guy at a restaurant.
"I don't even know you name." I said with a blank face.
"I'm Caden Heathway." He said "you are?" He asked raising and eyebrow.
"Geode Odessa." I say simply.
"Nice to meet you Geode." He said.
Two cokes were placed on the table. I grabbed one and took a sip.
"Are you ready to order?" The waitress asks.
I blush, embarrassed. I hadn't even glanced at the menu.
"Not yet." I said.
The waiter nods and walks off.
"Where are you from?" Caden asked curiously.
I look back over at him, once again surprised by how good he looks with his eyes and hair and just, all of it.
"South Carolina." I said simply.
I picked up the menu flipping threw the pages. Breakfast was over but that meant lunch was just starting.
"That makes sense.." Caden said picking up a menu as well.
"What?" I asked looking over the top of the menu.
"Your accent gave it away. Although I would have guessed Tennessee or something." He said
"That isn't even close.." I said looking back at the menu.
We were both quite until the waitress came back.
"Ready now?" She asked holding a notebook.
"Yes. I would like the potato soup with bacon, chives, and cheese on it." I said reading off the menu.
"Got it. And for you sir?" She asked looking over at Caden.
"A cheeseburger would be great." He said with a small smile.
"Alright. They will be out in a moment." She said and walked off.
"So.. if your from the south why are you here?" Caden asked looking over at me.
I sigh. I didn't want to get into it. The thought my grandmother dying still hurts. So I went with: "None of your damm business." It came out harsher than I expected but Caden didn't seem hurt.
"Well. I'm here for a work thing." He said picking at his nails.
"Am I supposed to care?" I asked. He ignored it completely.
"What do you do for a living?" He asked.
"I'm a photographer." I said giving into the sea of questions. His eyes widened.
"That's cool. I wouldn't have guessed. You look like an architect or astronomer or something." He said rambling.
"That was an idea at first." I said looking around the room.
During high school my parents wanted me to look into engineering. So I did. I really liked the whole 'sending things to space' thing, but it wasn't what I wanted to do.
"So.. are you here for photography?" He asked looking at me.
I looked back at his green eyes.
"It's... complicated." I say and look down at the table.
"Care to elaborate?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"Not really."
"Aww.." he whined.
I looked up at him. His lip was stuck out and he had puppy dog eyes. I laughed and so did he. He's cute when he laughs.
"I said no." I snapped.
"Well fine, how long are you here for?" Caden asked
"A month."
The waiter walked up to out table placing out plates in front of us.
I smile at her and say thank you. She nods and walks away. I look down at the food. The bowl was big with chives, bacon, and cheese. It looked great. I glance over at Caden's cheeseburgers. It was big, greasy, and had a lot of cheese.
"Hope you like cheese." I say with a laugh.
"Good thing I love cheese." He said his eyes winding as he exaggerated the words.
I pick up my spoon and look at the potato soup. My stomach growled. I pulled out my phone and take a picture of the bowl from the side. I put my phone back in my pocket.
"I don't know how I am going to eat this.." Caden mumbles looking at the burger.
"Cut it in half. Or fourths." I say picking up my spoon again.
"That makes sense." Caden said and fumbled around with his silverware as he tried to find a knife.
I gently dip the spoon into the soup. I lift the spoon full to my mouth and try it.
Note: let things cool before you try them.
