A few days later, I received a call confirming that I had indeed secured the position at the café. They conducted a brief phone interview to discuss my starting date and some basic details.

This morning, I woke up around 7 AM, with an hour to spare before my first day at work. I leaped out of bed and headed for a warm shower to fully wake up. Afterward, I applied some makeup and got dressed, knowing I would have to change into my new uniform when I got to the café. In a hurry, I rushed to the kitchen to whip up some bacon and eggs for breakfast, but I ended up burning them slightly, a testament to my occasional clumsiness.

I received a call from Jesse, who took a moment to wish me good luck for the day. I confided in him about my anxieties regarding the upcoming workday, and as he always did, he found precisely the right words to provide me with comfort.

Despite his reassuring words, I couldn't shake the distress I felt. Historically, I hadn't been the most consistent when it came to holding down jobs, to say the least. But I made a promise to myself that this time would be different. I was determined to arrive at work with at least 5 minutes to spare every day, and give it my all to make this job last.

I left for work, unintentionally breaking the promise I had just made to myself on the very first day. My car's windshield, still in a sorry state thanks to James, was in urgent need of repair before it shattered completely. So, for the past few weeks, I had opted to walk to my various destinations instead of driving, whenever it was feasible. Today was no different, but I hadn't anticipated my sloth-like morning pace. Miraculously, I managed to arrive at the café just a few seconds before 8.

"Olivia?" A feminine voice called out. I turned around to find my boss standing there, wearing a wide, welcoming smile. "I'll show you the ropes now so you can get to work properly until 2, as planned." I returned the smile, but inside, I could already feel the panic rising. I was about to make a big mistake, and it was looming on the horizon.

During my training, I learned how to carry multiple cups simultaneously, how to serve them properly, and even how to operate the cash register. It was a lot to take in, and I found it all quite complicated.

When a customer walked into the cafe, I couldn't help but feel a wave of anxiety wash over me. Slowly, I made my way to their table to take their order.

"I'll have an... An Acai bowl, please, with a black coffee," they requested. Inside, I panicked, my mind racing, trying to recall the details of their order. I couldn't remember what "Acai" was! I smiled and nodded, "Sure, I'll be back in a second".

I returned to the counter, quietly repeating "Acai bowl, black coffee, acai bowl, black coffee" to myself. I was so focused on my little mantra that I accidentally bumped into Milly, my new co-worker. Seizing the chance, I decided to ask her what an "Acai bowl" was.

"I really need to learn the menu by heart, but I haven't quite got it down yet... Can you help me?" I asked, feeling a bit embarrassed. Milly let out a light giggle and seemed happy to assist.

"Sure, I'll help. Just serve these two for me, and then we'll be even," Milly agreed.

I glanced at the clock; only an hour had passed, and I still had five more to go.

I grabbed my notebook and approached a table. To my surprise, I found Jesse and Maxi sitting there, partially hidden behind some menus. I tried to maintain a serious tone. "What are you two doing out here?"

Maxi responded, "We're having breakfast..."

Jesse chimed in simultaneously, "We're doing the coffee run."

"Like he said!" they added in unison, their mischievous grins giving them away.

"So, who's the liar here?" I inquired, finding it increasingly difficult to hold back laughter.

"He is!" came the simultaneous response from both of them, followed by a chuckle from me.

"I know you guys can't stay away from me; I'm very attractive... So, what can I serve you two?" I put on my professional tone, and they grinned.

"We'll go with the guys' lunch. How about... 8 bacon sandwiches, 20 cookies, and 8 lemonades?" Jesse instructed.

"Coming right up!" I replied. It was a substantial order, taking me about 15 minutes to prepare everything. I even managed to get some mayonnaise on my apron in the process. Returning to the guys, I stated, "The total comes to $33.99, but I do accept tips..." I gave them a playful wink. Jesse handed me 40 bucks and told me to keep the change. How kind!

I thanked Jesse and Maxi for their company, and they headed back to their lifeguard tower, presumably to store the lunch in the fridge.

During lunchtime, while serving a few glasses of juice, I accidentally spilled one on my apron. I hurried into the kitchen to clean up, and as I returned, I noticed Milly handing me another glass to serve to a customer. I smiled and thanked her before serving the drink. It was a hectic day, but in the end, I was grateful for having a good friend like Milly by my side, and we shared some great laughter amidst the chaos. Well, I mean, she laughed as I caused all the chaos...

Sorry guys... It has been AGES since I wrote the last chapter, and this one looks like a filler one... It isn't really good.
