I balled my eyes out in Huy's shoulder. I had run here immediately once the news that father had died had reached me. I told her everything, even my father's dying wish. I did not even care that Kahmose was with us. I needed them.
I had never cried so much in my life, and received so much sympathy. Huy just sat next to me, holding my hand, listening to me crying. She didn't say anything; didn't tell me to get myself together; didn't tell me that the future Queen of Egypt needs to keep her composure. She just sat, and listened.
Kahmose walked into the room again, sat down, and wrapped me in a huge hug.
And despite my sadness, my loss, my sorrow, my despair, I felt safe.
