Hospital Bed

Spike Spiegel x Reader

Cowboy Bebeop

(SPOILERS KINDA)

He woke up in the hospital room with Faye asleep in the chair beside him and Ein on the foot of the hospital bed. His vision was doubled for a little bit but as he blinked once or twice, Ein noticed his presence and jumped to his chest and started licking him everywhere, bandages and all.

"Ein! You're so fat now! Get off!" He grumbled, struggling to push the dog off of him.

Faye's eyes opened up to the sight of him being attacked with dog kisses. A small and greatly relieved smile was seen on her face and she helped Spike get the dog off of him.

It was a quiet few minutes before she said anything, "Is it all over now?" She asked.

"I don't know. But how long have I been asleep for?" He inquired as he winced again to sit up in the bed.

She sighed, "A few days, not too long. Ed and obviously Ein came back. She found out that you were critically injured."

"How?"

"She's a hacker," Faye chuckled lightly but the facade dropped, "(Y/N) is missing again."

Spike looked at her, "What do you mean? She's in jail now."

Faye ran her hand through her hair as she leaned back into her chair, "After you were put into the hospital, some of the members of the Syndicate tried to ambush the prison she was held in. The witnesses who survived this said they needed to find her so they can find you again. But she was gone before they reached her cell. I talked to one of the guards and he said that he had helped her escape. He knew it was wrong but it was going to be worse if he would just let them take her."

Spikes eyes went cold and indifferent as he tried to process her words more and more. What does the Syndicate want still? Everyone there is dead, he has had to died twice now for that godforsaken group. Julia died because of them. Now (Y/N) is missing. But what can he do? He's tied down to a hospital bed with bandages nearly on every inch of his body. His body is in such turmoil that every nerve hurts to move. Eyes nearly see two of everything after awhile. And he can't do jack shit to help (Y/N), Julia's only relative alive.

That was only of the only times he broke and possibly the first time he broke down in front of someone. Faye looked at him with widened eyes and mouth agape. Spike Spiegel is crying in front of her. He don't do anything to hide his emotions, he thought of it but everything hurts too much to think properly. She didn't know what to do except sit there and watch him cry. Ein laid on his feet, whining softly as he also listened to Spike cry. It wasn't a loud cry, it was more of a disappointed cry. As if he couldn't believe himself that he let things get so bad that he now can't get up from bed. Things were beginning to burn in his world because everything fell apart a long time ago.

'Spike...' she thought as she looked at the tears rolling down his cheeks and the way he clenched his teeth to how he gripped the bed sheets. He was so vulnerable at this moment that he didn't seem like Spike anymore.

Later on to that evening, Faye had left a long time ago and Jet stopped by with Ed a couple of hours earlier to pick up Ein and see how he was doing. But he didn't say much, all he thought was about was how much he fucked up. Jet had brought him books that he knew Spike would read them if he had to.

Thus he did, it was a mystery novel, the man was a ex soldier from a war and now he lives alone. It was a memoir dedicated to his late teenage years and to how he fell in love with a young woman before he left for the war. But most of it was after the war. The young woman he had fell in love with previously married another man while he was gone and he tried to meet up with her. When he came back from the war with two medals which were a good thing coming back from a war but she didn't care all too much. She told him that she was proud of him but said that for the filler sentence but nothing else. A year or two go by and he works now at the local police in the town that where he met her, a suspect of a crime who just was a suspect not connected to the murder really. But how he adored her from the minute he saw her.  It was like heaven had finally met Earth in that moment. Then the two fell in love shortly after the murder. That's where the story started really. The man couldn't stopping writing about her and how wonderful she was. There was things that no one else should have known except for him and his wife but it was a gift to her because later on he would die.

But Spike hadn't reached the ending yet.

"How's the book?"

He looked up to see (Y/N), beaten up and pale looking with her hair a mess and someone else's old clothes on. He set the book aside, "Looks like you had a rough day," he remarked, "Visiting hours are over."

She made a funny face at him,  "Bite me. But I have to ask, did you see Julia?"

"She's dead."

"I know. I went to her grave. But what did she look like? Did she change at all? Was she okay?" a look of worry washed over her face.

"She still looked the same and acted the same. She was perfect till the end," he mumbled as he rubbed his eyes.

She smiled softly but her eyes did different. Tears welled up in her eyes and rolled down, stinging the small cuts on her face. "I'm glad that she was okay," the young girl whispered.

"Come here," he said.

She gave him a weird look but listened to him but was captured by a hug. It wasn't a tight hug but a strong enough hug for her to feel it. Then she couldn't hold it anymore. Low sobs happened on his shoulder and he just held her.

The next morning, he woke up and rain trickled on the glass sliding doors to the balcony. He then got up to sign himself out but Jet was standing there at the nurses desk, signing papers. Spike gave him a look of disbelief. The man with the mechanical arm then looked over to the side and smiled, "Ready to go home?"

Afterwards,  they had changed his bandages and changed in a new but yet same tux, they left the hospital. Jet and Spike didn't say much to each other as they were walking back to the Bebop. As they walked in, Faye and another voice were heard and it wasn't Eds voice.

"Looks who finally decided to get better," Faye commented, giving him a smirk.

Then (Y/N) turned, "You still look like death."

"Three against two now. Great..." Spike murmured but he saw (Y/N) staring at him and he couldn't help but look at her once or twice. Her face was covered up in bandages and she had some of Faye's clothes on. She looked nothing like Julia anymore. Julia died but she's different. But he couldn't figure out what.

When it became nighttime again, Spike still sat out at the couch, reading an another book. (Y/N) walked out from the room that Jet gave her to see Spike engrossed into another book just like in the hospital. She smiled as she sneaked up behind him and gave him a hug. "Watcha reading now?"

"A fantasy novel this time."

"Couldn't sleep?" she asked.

"Yeah... but I think I'm tired enough now," as he closed the book but then he held on to her arms and his thumbs circled spots on them. "What about you?"

"I wanted some water," she said as she let go of him and started to walk away.

Spike stood up and watched her leave but he just walked back to his room and fell again to a night of darkness. But another body came into his bed and he knew who it was but there was no one because he believed in what he couldn't see still.
