Stupid Brandybuck
Meriadoc 'Merry' Brandybuck x Hobbit! Reader
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
"(Y/N)! (Y/N)! I'm home!" He called out for her name in the fields where they used roamed before he and his cousin left for their unexpected journey. He wasn't frantic but excited and ready to see her again after such a long time. His breath was ragged but he smiled as eyes scoured across the fields of the Shire.
"Merry?" A feminine voice called out. He could see her (h/c) head pop out from the tall tree. Her small (e/c) eyes widened in delight. "You stupid Brandybuck! You're home!" She shouted while she ran up to him. He was expecting a hug or something a little more warm welcoming but his cheek was sore before he could say another word.
She began again. "You made me scared and worried. You disappeared for months and months! To where? You didn't even say goodbye, you stupid Brandybuck," Her voice soften and tears were welling up in her eyes. "You didn't even say goodbye..."
He chuckled softly and lifted her eyes to meet his. The teary eyes met eyes who've seen everything. His face was scarred and rugged, telling her that he was in a war or battle. Perhaps it was more than just one. Shaggy hair draped in front of his face, showing the unkempt care he had after he had left. She saw that he was even a little taller than she.
"(Y/N), I'm sorry," He took her into his arms, allowing her to weep into fresh clothes rather than the shredded war rags. "I'll have to tell you what had happened. It was an adventure one could never forget."
"Adventure?" She asked, lifting her head to raise a brow.
He nodded his head, "It's beyond what you could ever imagine, (Y/N). But let's go and see everyone together. Pippin misses you."
"What about you?"
"What do you mean?"
Her voice lowered and tried to divert her gaze from him, "I mean, did you miss me... too?"
He held her body close to him, "Of course, I did. I thought about you all of the time. You never left my mind."
Now, having to look up, she did and he greeted her with that warm yet mischievous smile he always had. Chuckling with disbelief but relief, she held onto him more. "Don't leave without saying goodbye again, Brandybuck," She went back into his grip and they stood there a while longer before heading back into the town.
