This is slightly similar to my second chapter: PTSD and Trauma in Novels.

_____________________

We've all seen it. The tragic back story a character has--be it their parents died in some sad, traumatizing car accident, due to injustice, on an aeroplane, domestic/sexual violence and abuse or whatever.

Whether we'd like to admit it or not, we've all seen these before. And I'll admit. These tropes make your story more interesting--they give your character more depth--but this device is becoming overused.

It needs to end.

And I swear if I see one more Sarcastic Juno in any Bad Boy/Girl Novel in the Hot section I'll go Yuno Gasai on all of you.

To further my point, I took it upon myself to just skim through Wattpad's current Hot section in 2 genres.

> Teen Fiction
> Romance

Please ensure you have WiFi connection: you'll need that in order to view my evidence (though I'm quite sure there is probably no need for some).

Let's see just how many have mentions of a haunting past or tragic incident that he/she keeps secret and doesn't want the world to discover. Or maybe a broken girl, with a scarred pass that has hardened or softened him/her to this day?

Let's start with Teen Fiction. (Keep in mind that I just snapped the few first books I saw from the What's Hot section)
