First Day Back

"Hey"

"Hi"

Silence

She bit her lip and readjusted the backpack on her shoulder. He raised his eyebrows and glanced in the other direction.

"How was your summer?" she asked, not sure what she was hoping for, she already knew the answer.

"Nothing much, just... hanging out and stuff," he replied as he rolled his shoulders back and shifted his weight into his heels.

"Uhm ok, see you later," she quickly walked around him and went towards the east side of school.

"You're so pathetic," they said simultaneously to themselves as they both glanced backwards at each other at the same time. Their eyes met and they exchanged a little look. Nothing huge, but nothing small for sure. They turned around, smiled, and continued through their day.
