Perrie Edwards is a British singer from the girl-band Little Mix.
Okay I love love love Perrie. She's my baby. But to be honest she is problematic.
The cultural appropriation* girl, when will you ever learn.
Native Americans have been assimilated and mocked for the way they live, act, dress. They've literally been called savages and she — a white girl — comes and take a picture wearing this just for the sake of her instagram account.
I don't know about hennas but I'm still putting them because some may find it cultural appropriation. (Hinduism)
**UPDATE : @SOC1ALCASUALTY sayd in the comment section that henna isn't from a religion but from some parts of Asia and Africa.
I've found out that it's used for many festive occasions in many cultures.
For halloween, she's dressed as an Egyptian.
Bindis (Hinduism). They get bullied because of the "red dot" they have on their forehead
Here, she is seen with an afro and dreads. Africans get mocked for their hair / hair styles.
EXTRA:
No matter how much they slayed, it was wrong of them to use sugar skulls / candy skulls (Cinco de mayo) as nothing more than a prop.
*Cultural appropriation is when someone uses the element of a culture that isn't theirs. It includes traditions, fashion, symbols, language and music.
Note: There are a lot of celebrities who appropriate culture and while writing this, I realized that doing them all would be way too long & if I do one, I shouldn't close my eyes on another celebrity. Because I don't have the time and patience for that, Perrie Edwards will be the FIRST and LAST problematic celebrity because of cultural appropriation on this book.
