My brother
Lies beside me
As still as a rock
Eyes blank
I ask him if he remembers me
His stare is a blank canvas
I ask him if he remembers the accident
He cries
My finger dances across his scarred cheek
He smiles his sunshine smile
I ask him if he remembers who was in the car
In the accident
Blank stare
Meets my searching eyes
I tell him soon he will remember
I tell him to keep holding on
The doctors have given up
They will let him die
They will send me away
I beg
To give me a chance
Everyone deserves another chance
They agree
To let me try
But doubt shines in their eyes
I feed on their doubt
I am thirsty for challenge
Love
Drives me
Love is what it takes
But love
Is hard to achieve
When darkness conquers your heart
Love overcomes the deepest scars
