Angel POV

"Angel!" My mom bust her way into my room. I jumped at the intrusion. I had just finished getting ready for school. She looked very mad. "What the hell am I doing getting calls from your damn school for huh?"

"Mama I don't-"

"Showing up late everyday, skipping classes, and your grades are slipping? Girl what the hell has gotten into you?" She glared at me while I just stood there with my head down. "It's that boy isn't it?"

I snapped my head up. "No mama-"

"Yes the hell it is! You were never like this until he came into the picture."

"It's not mom," I tried to reason.

"Then who the hell is it? When you and Lynn were friends I never had to worry about this. You're trying me Angel. You really are. Keep trying me and watch. You won't like the ending result." She slammed my room door shut as she stormed out.

I sighed and sat on my bed. I couldn't tell my mom he really is the reason I've been acting out. Can you blame me? DJ is the most popular guy at our school. Every girl wants him. And by magic, I got him. He wanted a certain kind of girl as his girlfriend so I had to mold myself to be that girl. I admit, it's hard being his girlfriend. He has so many regulations for his girlfriend.

One being style. I have to dress a certain way for him. I had a decent sense of style before him but he said I have to wear name brands like him. He bought me a bunch of outfits to start me off but I had to continue it. Both of my parents have decent jobs. My mom owned her own beauty shop and my dad was a lawyer. I get a small allowance each week but not enough to keep up with the DJ lifestyle.

Since my parents were separated my dad sends me money every week. When mom found out I was spending it all on abstract things she made my dad stop. So I had to follow desperate measures. I began stealing. I was nervous at first but now I'm a pro. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

Another regulation was appearance. Not only did I have to dress good but I had to look good. I had to get used to makeup. Something I'd never thought I would get into. Me and Lynn used to talk about how we wouldn't become one of those females. No offense to the ones that did wear makeup. We thought natural beauty was always the best way to go. A lot of things changed.

But the most important regulation I had to abide by was weight. He didn't want me to gain a pound. Literally. He would get me weighed every week to make sure I didn't gain any more than 10 pounds. I went on a strict diet and exercised all the time. My body tried to reject it but I wouldn't let it. I have to stay perfect for him.

I sighed and got up. I grabbed my bag and went downstairs. I grabbed an apple and took a bite out of it. My stomach gurgled painfully. I ignored it and checked the time. School started in about thirty minutes. I texted DJ and waited. One thing I noticed about him was how he doesn't text back that quickly. Like he'd have his phone in his hand and not text back right away. He'd purposely wait a few minutes to answer. So I wasn't surprised when it took him ten minutes to reply to me. By the time he gave me a straight answer on whether or not he was giving me a ride school had already started.

I sat on the porch and thought back on some things. Me and Lynn were best friends for many years. We did everything together. We were almost like twins. Loved the same things, same food, we even planned on going to school together. We were gonna get married on the same day, have our kids grow up to be the best of friends. Everything. But then one day DJ noticed me and everything changed. I heard a car and knew it was DJ. When he came to a stop I got up and headed for the car.

I admit DJ wasn't what I hoped and pictured he'd be. But he was better than nobody. I'm better off having him than Lynn. She only brought my social status down like he says.

In school it was the norm. We were seen together and stared at in envy. I mingled with my new group of friends. Everything was good. We gossiped and bullied Lynn. She only does this to herself. I mean, if she would lose that extra weight and actually did something with her wardrobe she wouldn't be such an easy target.

"Fat people are really just a waste," I said loud enough for her to hear in civics. "I mean seriously, all you do is sit around and eat. So unattractive."

"No one and I mean NO ONE will want a fat bitch," Janice, my closest friend in the group, said laughing. We all joined her.

"Y'all check out them shoes," Crystal pointed and laughed. "I bet them piggies are squealing from suffocation."

"Piggies? Try hogs," I laughed. Lynn was gripping her pen as she wrote down her notes. "Trust honey, you have more things to worry about than notes. Like figuring out where your whore of a mother went." We laughed at the fallen look on her face. I felt something stab me when I said that.

What the hell?! Why would you say that? My self-conscious chastised.

What? It's the truth. "Did your dad leave you yet?" We all snickered. "I would leave too if my daughter turned out to be a useless fat piece of-"

"Fuck you Angel!" she shouted. It surprised all of us. She never says anything back to us. "At least my father never had to question if I was his daughter or not." The bell rang and she got up and stormed out. My mouth fell when she said that. No one was supposed to know about that. I can't believe she just said that to me.

"Damn Angel," Janice said. "You're gonna let her get away with that?"

"Hell no. That fat bitch is gonna pay," I growled.
