The last episode of the day came on, and Bree and I were enjoying the extra cheesy pizza that we had ordered. Suddenly, I received a twitter notification. Zak had posted a picture of one of his haunted artifacts. At that moment, I thought to myself, maybe I was too involved with someone I've never met. Deep down, I knew Zak would never want someone like me. "Do you think we're obsessed?"
Bree looked up at me, as she pulled the hot cheese off her pizza with her teeth. "What are you talking about?" She asked.
"We spend so much of our time swooning over guys we don't even personally know. Does that make us crazy?"
"No, of course not. We're fans. We enjoy the show and we admire them. There's nothing wrong with that." Bree assured.
I trusted her word, but somewhere inside, I still felt that I devoted too much of my time to a stranger, but I couldn't help myself. It was as if Zak was a drug, and I had to shoot him into my veins to stay level. I needed him, every day. I couldn't fight my addiction.
Bree wasn't paying attention to my depressing facial expressions. She was too involved in her delicious pizza, and her beloved Aaron. "I love how passionate he is for the paranormal."
"Don't forget Zak."
"Okay, okay, all of them." Bree said, as she laughed with me.
The episode had come to an end, and Bree and I slowly turned to face each other. Neither one of us ever had any clue of what to do when it was over. We hardly watched any other tv show. No other show fascinated us as much as ghost adventures. "What are we supposed to do now?" Bree asked.
"We go through this every week." I sighed, as I slipped the pizza box into the refrigerator.
"Yeah, and every week it's the same story. You're tired and you don't feel like doing anything."
"That's because I don't like socializing. I don't like other people." I walked back to the couch, and sat beside Bree. The idea of going out usually didn't sit well with me but maybe, it wasn't a bad idea. Maybe, I would meet someone in person. Instead of fantasizing about Zak. "You know what, maybe we should go out. Have some drinks." Bree became so excited, she jumped off the couch. I laughed, as she jumped up and down in the middle of the living room.
"Oh, my god, girls night!" Bree shouted.
"Bree, we live together. Every night is girls night." Bree grasped my hands, and forcefully pulled me off the couch.
"Get dressed, bitch! We're getting white girl wasted!" Bree yelled, as she ran to her room to get changed.
I was never a big fan of clubs. Sometimes I preferred a quiet bar. That was, if I actually went out at all. Clubs were loud, and the girls that hung out there were obnoxious, and annoying to me. I had always been an awkward dancer, and there was always that one jackass that would try to dance with me, and inappropriately grope me.
Bree and I arrived at the nearest club. I was immediately aggravated by the loud music pounding my ear drums. Bree knew that alcohol would calm my nerves so, she went to the bar, as I found a small table in the corner. Far away from the crowded dance floor.
Bree and I were several drinks in, and we had definitely loosened up. I was waving and winking back at all the hot guys. Taking names and numbers but no matter how many men hit on me, there was only one guy on my mind.
Suddenly, I looked to the dance floor, and noticed a sexy man eyeing Bree. Bree continued to sip her blue cocktail with a cute little umbrella, and didn't even notice. I used my heel to tap Bree's leg underneath the table. "Hey, that hot guy is staring at you." I said, as I gestured to the dance floor. Bree looked at him, and his smile grew as her eyes met his. Bree quickly glanced back at me.
"Eww, not my type." Bree scoffed.
Unexpectedly, the man made his way to our table. I smiled, as he approached us, but Bree would hardly even look up. "Hi, I'm Matt." He said, as he reached his hand out for Bree to shake. She shook his hand, but quickly said something he wasn't expecting to hear.
"I have a boyfriend. His name is Aaron."
The man dropped his head in shame, and slowly walked away, red with embarrassment. I was absolutely shocked, and felt terrible for the cute stranger. "Bree, are you out of your damn mind?"
"What?" Bree acted as if she had done nothing wrong.
"He was super hot, and you turned him down. Aaron is not your boyfriend, Bree."
"But..."
"No, Bree, you have to move on, and realize it won't ever happen. You can't keep turning down guys in the hopes that some day you'll meet Aaron, and magically fall in love." My words were harsh, but I felt as though Bree needed to hear them.
Bree didn't want to acknowledge what I had said. She grabbed her purse, and stomped her way out of the club. At that point, I knew I had screwed up. I followed Bree outside. Leaving all the numerous phone numbers behind on the table.
I rushed outside, and saw Bree sitting alone in the curb. I slowly sat beside her. "I'm not crazy, you know." Bree said. "I know that me and Aaron are supposed to be together. I can feel it." Bree laughed at herself. "Okay, maybe I'm a little bit crazy but I don't know, I feel like I owe it to myself to at least give my heart a chance. My heart knows what it wants and right now, it only beats for one man."
I gave Bree a gentle smile. I knew exactly how she felt. I didn't want to see any other man until I met Zak. I felt that same passion Bree did. I had to give my heart a chance.
