As I opened my eyes in bed, I saw the dust bunnies hanging off the ceiling above me. I blinked quickly to adjust my eyes to the sun shining through the window. Bree was still fast asleep. She wasn't much for early mornings. Me on the other hand, I loved waking up early enough to see the sunrise.
I stepped outside, and had to shield my eyes from the sunlight that met me. As I turned towards the office, I noticed the desk clerk waving at me. Usually, I wouldn't dream about joining a strange man in a empty motel, but this mans sweet smile had very little intimidation. I walked towards his office, my flip flops smacking the wooden path underneath me with every step.
As I reached his office, he greeted me with another warm smile. I shyly smiled back. I was surprised to see how attractive this man actually was. With his chiseled jaw line, and his piercing blue eyes, that were even more intense due to his dirty blonde hair. He had nicely trimmed facial hair surrounding his pearly white teeth. His well toned body was pressed beautifully in his tight white shirt, and blue jeans. "Good morning." He smiled.
"Good morning." I smiled back, as I looked around at all the old photographs hanging on the walls.
"I hope you slept alright." He said, as he took another sip of his steaming coffee. The good ole twang in his voice gave me chills.
"I slept fine, thank you."
"Would you like some coffee? It's a fresh pot." He offered, as he reached for the handle.
"Creamer and sugar?"
"Yes, ma'am."
The handsome stranger poured me a cup ,and stirred in the perfect amount of creamer and sugar. "I should've known you wanted a lot of sugar. It's sweet just like your smile." I laughed, when I heard the cheesy line.
"Oh, quite the smooth talker."
"Yeah, I'm sorry, it can get quite lonely out here."
"Do you run this place all alone?"
"Well, it's my dads place. But I'm usually here by myself. Stage 3 cancer. He's usually bed ridden."
"Oh, I'm so sorry."
He smiled at me, and rounded the desk to hand me my coffee. I thanked him and took a sip. I was surprised by how tasty it actually was. "I'm Melissa, by the way." I said, as I reached my hand out. His grip was tight, and his hands were rough. That didn't bother me though. I could tell he was a hard worker, and I liked that in a man.
"Charlie." He replied. I turned to the front door, which was wide open, letting in a warm summer breeze. I walked out onto the front steps, and Charlie followed.
"It's really beautiful out here." I said, as I took in the beautiful sight of sun rays beaming though the tall trees across the road. "Detroit isn't this pretty."
"Detroit? Damn, you are far away, aren't you? Where you headed?"
"Vegas."
"Oh, going to go do some gambling, huh?" He asked, with a laugh.
"No, actually, I was thinking about becoming a prostitute." Charlie's eyes widened, and I could see that he was at a loss for words. "I'm kidding."
"Thank god." Charlie laughed. "You are far too pretty to do that to yourself."
I could feel my face warming up. I couldn't tell if it was from the sun shining on me or due to my massive amounts of blushing. Suddenly, Bree rounded the corner. "There you are! I was fucking terrified, I thought someone kidnapped you!" Bree yelled, until she saw the handsome specimen standing beside me. "Oh, hello, there." Bree reached out, and shook his hand. "Mel, aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?" She asked.
"Bree, this is Charlie. Charlie, this is my best friend Bree."
"Nice to meet you Bree." He said. His smile, having the same affect on her, as it did to me.
"Mel, I was just letting you know we should probably hit the road." Bree said, as she walked back towards our room. I finished my last bit of coffee, and tossed it into the trash. Charlie did the same, and then reached out to shake my hand again. I grasped onto him, and looked into his blue eyes.
"It was wonderful meeting you, Melissa. I hope you have lots of luck in your pursuit of prostitution." Charlie joked.
"Nice to meet you too, Charlie. Maybe we will cross paths again some day." I smiled, and felt him watching me, as I walked back to the room.
I entered the room, and saw Bree sitting on the bed, mouth dropped to the floor. "What's your problem?" I asked, curiously.
"That man was fucking gorgeous!" Bree exclaimed, mouth still wide. "I mean, not as gorgeous as Aaron but still, hot damn!" I rolled my eyes, and packed up my clothes. Even though, I was trying to hide my attraction, I felt something very strong towards Charlie.
I ignored my feelings, and loaded my bag into my jeep. I knew the entire reason I was on this trip was to meet Zak, not random men at motels. Still, I couldn't help but to smile at him as we drove by. Charlie was still standing at his door, waving as we passed him.
Another long day on the road, when suddenly, I saw it. The lights of Vegas. The skyline shined so brightly, I lost my breath. Once again, Bree had passed out in her seat. I abruptly shook her shoulders to wake her. "Bree! Look!" I yelled. Bree opened her eyes, wider and wider, as she saw the lights.
"Oh, my god, we actually made it." Bree whispered.
As we drove through the streets of Vegas, we were in awe at the beautiful people, and tall casinos. We finally reached the Excalibur Hotel and checked ourselves in.
Bree immediately ran to the large window in our bedroom, and pulled back the curtains. This bedroom, much nicer than our last. We both looked out at the strip, and smiled as we saw the numerous opportunities waiting for us. "Just think, Aaron could be out there right now, walking the strip, waiting for his bride to be." Bree said. We both looked at each other, and smiled, thinking the exact same thing. "Let's go have some fun."
