Could this be true? Was this the actual key she was looking for all those years. Lacey didnt hesitated to test the gift she had in her hands.

After leaving her apartment she went straight to the library. Once she was in front of the door, she stopped staring at it for a second and then used the key to try and open it. The piece of metal had fit perfectly in the lock of the door, her next move lead to the opening of the front door of the library. Her eyes widen along with a smile on her face that grew bigger and bigger every step she took inside that paradise full of books.

As she looked around the place her eyes suddenly caught a figure walking towards her with a cane as she heard the next words.

"We may sit in our library and yet, be in all quarters of earth"

"You gave me the key?" She asked recognizing the figure in front of her, even though she couldn't see who was it quite clearly.

Mr Gold nodded watching Lacey's beautiful self standing in front of him. Her soft skin and curled hair brought him memories from the past as others painful memories started bombarding him as well. For a moment he got lost in them so deeply it affected his view making it blurry before looking back at her. "I thought you might want to work here instead of at my shop..." He said emphasizing his accent for a moment "The mayor is looking for a librarian. There is also a department in the back if you'd like to---"

Before he could continue, Lacey interrupted him as she tend to do every time more often.

"Why?" She said slowly stepping forward. After all this time she was still confused, why had he been so nice and kind to her? Why everyone in the town seem to hate him so much? Why was he doing this for her?

The question remained there for a few seconds along with a short silence invading the place.

"I think I'm not getting your question" he said looking at the way she stepped forward every second more close to him.

"Why are you doing this for me?" She asked

Her eyes got deeply lost in his. Now, Mr Gold was the one stepping forward to her until a point where their faces were not even a centimeter apart from each other. It wasn't a uncomfortable feeling either of them had but of joy. For one place, Lacey was frozen not knowing how to respond to the sudden interaction they were having; she was glad he was about to open up to her, or at least this was what she thought it was going to happen, and for once in her life she didn't wanted to be anywhere else but where she was in that moment. It even felt wrong the desire she suddenly had to press her lips to hims. For the other part, Mr Gold wanted to just tell her everything, tell her what he felt for her and how much she had missed her in all the time that she was gone; he couldn't understand how did he even got to this point where she permitted him to be that close but he wasn't going to waste the occasion.

"What other reason? I'm just trying to be nice to you Lacey" he said for one last time trying to hide the truth

"I think we both know that this is for something else than just trying to be nice to me..."

He hesitated and before he could even try, the overwhelming feeling of being rejected came back to him. His eyes now facing the floor embarrassed for all the mixed feelings inside him "I'm just trying..." He looked back up at her at her crystal blue eyes focusing in them "trying for you to remember... To remember me"

Before she could even say a word, Mr Gold was done walking pass her as he opened the library door stopping for a moment "you don't need to come back to the shop anymore" he said softly before closing the door behind him

Lacey was more confused than ever. She did not understand what he meant at first, it took her a while to think straight about all that had happened. After a few hours of thinking and walking around the shelves full of books, she finally made a decision.

It was obvious at that point that, she was on his mind just as much as he was on hers...

And

She needed to know,

what she was feeling was true?
