~ It's better to be hurt by the truth,
Then comforted by a lie.- - -
Jenae
I called Jae as I walked to the park across the street of my apartment building.
"Jenae? I'm on my way over."
"Nah. Don't," My voice came out harsh. "Come to the park across the street."
"Oh..." Jae's voice drifted from it's happy state. "Okay... I'll head over there then."
I hung up the phone on her and stuffed my phone deep into my pocket.
I sat down on a bench and waited there.
"Jenae." I heard from behind me.
I just sat there and Jae playfully put herself in front of me so I'd look up. But I wasn't in the mood for all that.
Jae then stopped and stood up straight. "Why're you just sitting there like that?"
I didn't answer as she sat down.
"Why did you hang up so suddenly before?" Jae asked and I shrug.
"Did something happen?"
I finally looked at her.
"Mr. Hobs said... you threatened him so I'd get the scholarship. Is that true?"
"Yeah," Jae responded so boldly.
I saw her in such a different light when that word left her mouth.
She had no emotion to her voice. As if her saying that was no big deal at all.
"Why?"
"I didn't want you to miss another year of school-" "-Back then... we didn't even talk to each other though?" I cut her off.
She stared at me for a moment before saying, "I wanted to get closer to you."
"Like you said... we didn't talk then. We weren't on good terms because of that misunderstanding... Then I heard about you not being able to come to school."
"I wanted to help you..."
I let out a chuckle.
