47 | Unexpected

Thankfully, Jae was able to leave the police station without them giving her any problems.

The criminal behind everything turned out not to be the son of the landlady.

"He's previously been charged with sexual harassment, burglary, and many more." The police officer told us. "During questioning, he seemed delusional. He could possibly be punished lightly if his test results show he's mentally ill."

"That crazy fuck needs to be locked up! Period!" My sister Jenni, suddenly shouted.

"So, all charges against James have been dropped?" Mr. Hobs questioned.

The police officer nodded towards him, "He did admit to stealing women's undergarments. And to putting them all in James' room."

I let out a sigh from where I laid in the hospital bed. As I said, James isn't like that.

"Alright," The officer nodded towards us all respectively. "I'll be leaving now."

Essence, Jessica, and Tyliah had already left this morning with promises of returning.

We waved the officer off and Mr. Hobs let out a deep sigh once he had left the room.

"I wasn't injured severely or nothing so you ain't have to come visit." I told Mr. Hobs and he said, "I know, but I did because I wanted to."

"You said you know the person who helped me when that guy attacked me with the brick, right?" Mr. Hobs asked and I nod.

He took out a envelope and handed it to me. "Please give this to that person."

He took out another one and set it beside the other one. "And this is your paycheck."

He gave me a soft smile then went to walk away. But I didn't let him leave without saying, "Thanks."

He nodded towards me, "And you don't have to work tomorrow. You can take that day off. You've only got two days left anyway."

I nod in response and thank him again before watching him walk away. Damn, he changed.

Jenni then gave me a look. "That goody-two-shoes is still in the waiting room."

I let out another sigh.

"Tell her she can come in."

Jennifer got up and went to do that as she said, "I'll be at the cafe if you need me though."

Jae came in after Jenni left and I shifted in my spot. It's been awhile since we been alone.

"I-I'm perfectly fine. I get to go home today or tomorrow. Depending on my results."

Jae responds, "Right." Then she looks into my eyes as she says, "That's a relief."

She looked back down and I said, "I'm grateful for what you did yesterday and all. But..."

I gripped my thighs through my hospital gown and took a deep breath as I thought out my next words very carefully.

"...I've told you... and I'll tell you again... I don't like you using violence as a solution. Please... I don't want you going that far... ever..."

"I know. I'm regretting it now too." Jae said and for once I could tell by her expression that she meant it as unemotional as she is.

I stared at her bruised knuckles as it fell into a silence. Well, she did do it for me.

I hesitantly moved my hand towards hers and took it as I intertwined our fingers.

I looked up into her eyes and gave a small smile, "I'm not mad at you. Alright?"

Jae gave me a smile in response and nodded, "Alright."

I then let go of her hand and the atmosphere brightened up a lot more.

"Summer vacation is almost over." I told her, "You gonna help me out this semester too?"

I only was joking but she said, "Yes."

I could feel my face flushing and I smiled again. She intertwined our fingers again and leaned in for a kiss. This time I didn't flinch or become hesitant, but instead I grabbed her jaw with my free hand and crashed her lips into mine.

Who would've thought I'd be graduating college with Jae as my girlfriend?

When I pulled away from the kiss, Jae had this look of complete love and infatuation. It made me laugh and she just gave me a goofy smile.

"Before I forget..." She said while reaching into her back pocket. She turned around as she took something out and turned back towards me as she began to get down on one knee.

I furrowed my brows before letting out a laugh.

"Jae..." I warned, "Stop playing."

Her smile widened as she opened up a small diamond box and inside was a ring.

I covered my mouth before anything inhuman could slip and I shook my head.

"Yo... I'm serious... stop fucking playing."

Jae laughed at me, "I'm not playing."

"Will you make this last forever with me?" Jae asked and I remained dumbstruck.

Holy shit...

I don't know what'll happen in the future, but won't it be better if I'm with her?
