she looked sadly at the last few messages that had been sent between them.

It had been almost a month since they had talked. In that time, she had given up on trying to rebel against her parents. It took too much effort.

In fact, she was beginning to notice how a lot things felt like they took too much effort. She could never respond to anyone's texts or calls or even make herself food. She even stayed in bed for 5 hours one day as it felt like she was paralyzed and couldn't bother putting in the effort to live.

"Your final dress fitting is today," the older woman played with her hair while looking down at her phone.

"I know."

"Arliss, I'm glad you finally gave in. As your mother I only want the best for you, you know?" The older woman reached for her hand, but she pulled it out of sight.

"I know."

The older woman sighed and stood up from the couch she was sitting on. She stared at the younger woman a little longer. As the older woman walked out, she felt almost sad for her daughter.

She keeps referring to her as a woman, but she is nothing but a child.
