Eva wandered into the kitchen. She rubbed her eyes and opened the fridge. It was two o'clock in the morning and she was hungry. She looked through the drawers and didn't notice Chris slip into the kitchen. He wrapped his arm around her waist.
"Oh hi," She whispered. They were the only ones home, but the darkness made her feel like they needed to be quiet.
"Hello." Chris smiled. "What's up?" Eva turned around so they were facing each other and leaned back against the other door.
"Nothing...much," She murmured,
"Mmm." He set his head on the door next to hers so he was breathing into her ear. She giggled.
"That tickles," She pushed against his chest and he laughed. Putting his left hand on the door above her head, he combed back her hair with his other.
"You're so beautiful," He spoke softly. She smiled and brought her hand to his hair, fingering through it. Chris brought his hand down around her waist and pulled her closer to his chest. His bare skin was warm and soft on Eva's cheek. Chris tucked her head under his chin and ran his hands up and down her back. Everything was quiet except for the constant whirring of the fridge. Chris exhaled and started humming softly. She pulled back and looked up at him.
"What are you humming?"
"Then you smiled, over your shoulder and for a minute I was stone-cold sober," Chris sang quietly to her, "I pulled you closer to my chest." Eva moved back to him and let herself relax into his chest. Chris continued singing softly, "And you asked me to stay over, I said, I already told ya, I think that you should get some rest." They swayed slowly back and forth to the rhythm of the song. "I knew I loved you then, But you'd never know. 'Cause I played it cool when I was scared of letting go. I know I needed you, But I never showed." Chris's voice made Eva feel safe. She closed her eyes and squeezed him tighter, never wanting the moment to end. "But I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old. Just say you won't let go. Just say you won't let go..." Chris grabbed Eva's hand and stretched his arm making her step back. Chris continued singing, "I'll wake you up with some breakfast in bed, I'll bring you coffee with a kiss on your head." Chris twirled Eva under his arm and pulled her into him again, "And I'll take the kids to school, wave them goodbye, and I'll thank my lucky stars for that night. When you looked over your shoulder, for a minute, I forget that I'm older, I wanna dance with you right now," Chris kept his hand in hers and spun her around again. "Oh, and you look as beautiful as ever and I swear that everyday you'll get better, you make me feel this way somehow," He pulled her back to him and clasped his hands behind her back. She stretched her arms around his neck and put her head on his chest as they swayed again, Chris still singing to her, "I'm so in love with you, and I hope you know,
darling your love is more than worth its weight in gold, we've come so far my dear, look how we've grown. And I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old, just say you won't let go, just say you won't let go..." Chris's voice quieted above Eva but they continued swaying.
"I like that song." Eva said into his chest.
"Me too." Chris whispered, and kissed her head.
"And I'll never let go," Eva whispered. Chris set his head on hers and smiled against her hair.
"Me neither."
