Before you read these next few poems there are a few word that you should know. No I did not make these up. Yes these are real words that people once used.

Chilver -- an old dialect word for an ewe lamb

Hirple -- to limp or walk awkwardly

Curple -- an old Scots word for the hindquarters of a horse

Sulf -- another word for toadflax (a plant)

Culf -- an old southwest word for the loose that came out of pillows and cushions

Now you are ready to read these limmericks!

There once was a man with a daughter

Be frugile and wise he once taughter her

He gave all his silver

to buy her a chilver

And that was the last thing he bought her!

There once was a man who wore purple

On tuesday he walked with a hirple

The horse he was brushing

Got spooked by cows rushing

And thats why you stay clear the curple!

There once was a duck who ate sulf

and next thing he knew he was culf

The Children beat him.

The mothers pleat him.

And thats why you stay near the Gulf!
