A few years later
''Things come and go, but memories never change. Some people are brought into your life for a reason, and they leave a big impact in our hearts. I know that you are one of those people. From the first day so many years ago when we met at your audition, nothing was going to be the same. We've been on a roller coaster since that day and I don't mean to sound cheesy, but I don't mind as long as I'm with you. I love you. Turn around. And then go out onto the porch." The recording from Demi's voice mail said.
Confused, she turned. There was twenty-four roses on the desk. She gasped, picking them up and inhaled their sweet scent. Following Joe's instructions, she made her way out of the porch, where he stood, smiling with his eyes that could read her so well.
"Joe!" She screamed, running up to him and embracing him tight. "I thought you weren't supposed to be home from another week.
"Things can be arranged," he chuckled softly, kissing the top of her head. "I missed you on tour, though."
"I missed you too," she sighed, pulling away from him. "These are really sweet."
He grinned widely. "I'm glad you like them, but baby, we need to talk." His expression then got serious.
"Whats wrong?" her voice filled with concern.
"Demi, you know I love you, right? I don't ever want to have to leave you for anything," Joe told her.
"I don't either," she agreed.
"But this tour...I just don't know if I can have a girlfriend right now..." he looked away.
Something caught in Demi's throat. "Joe...you can't. The roses, the voicemail...all lead up to this?"
Joe nodded, still not looking at her. "I didn't know how else to tell you."
A million thoughts screamed at Demi, but the loudest was shattering her: he's leaving you for his career. How could he? As the thoughts processed in her brain and tears began to form, she watched Joe get down on one knee and pulled out a box.
"Demetria Devonne Lovato, will you marry me?" his cocoa-colored eyes looked into her dark chocolate orbs which were glazed in water.
"Y-Yes, you asshole," she choked out, laughing.
He laughed along and put the ring on her finger then she helped him up.
Demi hit him on the shoulder hard. "Asshole, I thought you were breaking up with me!"
"I couldn't let this be a normal proposal," he winked as he brought her in his arms and wiped away some of her tears.
She shook her head. "You're a huge dork, you know that?"
"But I'm your dork," he said. "I love you."
"I love you, too, Joe." she leaned up, kissing him.
