Reyhanli, Turkey.

The trip of a lifetime, the land of my heart.

Tucked away between mystical valleys,

Amidst the rivers and ancient stone alleys,

A place of wonder lies spread out,

Blessed by Allah, there is no doubt.

Beneath its skies live a people so great,

For salvation from Allah do they wait,

Living heroes, miracles they are,

Their stories told by every jagged scar.

The rich soil holds drops of Paradise; nourishing and soft,

Fields laden with mushrooms that Jannah coughed,

Carpets of bright green blades dance in the gentle breeze,

Crystal waters rush along rocks with ease.

The people there, oh the people were sensational,

Their stories like Sahabah, touching and inspirational,

With hearts of gold shining like rays of the sun,

They fight our battles, one by one.

A living he makes with his bare hands,

Once a doctor, in his lands,

With the same he holds his mighty sword,

Hoping to return back to his Lord.

His wife stays home and nurses their child,

Hit by a bomb, they still smiled,

She waited for him, day after day,

Knowing not where he was or of his way.

And so she lives on, stronger each second,

Waiting for the day when mankind shall be reckoned,

Staying in the town of Reyhanli,

She dreams of the day when Syria will be free.

The orphaned child, so innocent she seems,

Her older brother with gashes at his knees,

No more than 7 they smile up at me,

Yearning for the love they so desperately need.

As I pick up the son of a martyr and hold him in my arms,

I'm taken by my mind to a place further than far and further still,

While I hold another close and breath in his scent,

I find myself in a place that only the smile of an orphan can fill.

There are thousands like her that stay there, too,

Each with a different tale, varied as the shades of blue,

Larger than the sky, dwarfed by infinity and beyond,

Preparing for their call from Allah, so they may respond.
