How many of you remember the Oh My Dollar Valentines?
Those were fun, weren't they? You fill out a survey and for just a buck, you get the name and number of your one true soul mate. And, hey, all proceeds go to a worthy cause: cheer camp...
The Dollar Valentine survey was a two-parter: describe yourself, and describe what you're looking for in someone else.
And, as I filled mine out, I realized I was actually describing a certain someone. You'd think if my answers all described one person, that person would at least appear in my Top Five. But no.
I didn't match up to the one person who might really have been right. Maybe it wasn't my fault. Maybe none of us can say who we truly are.
Maybe we're more than what the world sees. Or less.
Maybe none of us are who we seem.
Chloe sighed as she took a seat beside Jeff and across from Clay in the school library. Jeff acknowledged her with a kiss on the side of her head and Clay gave a curt nod. Both boys turned their heads down to the papers in front of them when Chloe noticed the red sheet Clay was looking at hidden behind his arm.
"What are you working on?" Jeff asked Clay absentmindedly.
"It's nothing," Clay shook his head. Chloe leaned across the table and swiped the paper away from him.
"Dollar Valentine Survey," Chloe proclaimed with a small smirk.
"Why- no, no, no - I'm good - Chloe," Clay objects as she and Jeff read over his answers.
"Dude, relax," Jeff held a hand up as a small smile grew on her face. "'How do I spend my Saturday nights?'," Jeff read aloud. "You answered, 'video games'."
"No lie there," Chloe pointed out.
"'Favorite kind of music?', 'obscure indie bands'. 'Favorite reading materials', 'fantasy and sci-fi'? Dude, why not just say you watch Lord of the Rings on repeat."
"I don't do that," Clay defends himself.
"Anymore," both Jensen twins clarified. Clay narrowed his eyes at his sister. "I can answer for myself, thank you. Plus, you have no say in this, you watch Phineas and Ferb on repeat daily."
"Phineas and Ferb rocks," Chloe fires back.
"You used to watch Lord of the Rings on repeat?" Tony from the table across questions unbelievably causing Chloe to stifle a chuckle.
"We need to work on this, man."
"No, we don't," Clay declined.
"Listen, dude. I needed a C average or above to play baseball. U.S History was kicking my ass. And I got help, right? What about you, dude? How's your dating life? C average or above?"
