**Chapter 17**

Nicoletta woke up on a hard bed and surprisingly fluffy pillow. She kept her eyes closed as people talked somewhere in the room. She ignores the smell of Grape and Strawberry medicine and Latex rubber gloves. A low beeping is next to her and something is hooked up to her finger and arms. Her head burns but she ignores it.

"It's a miracle the baby was unharmed." A woman says in a soft voice.

"Are you absolutely sure there is a baby in there?" Nicoletta recognized as her mothers voice.

"One hundred percent." The first voice says.

Nicoletta hears someone shuffle around the room.

"What do we do?" Her mother asks.

"Well first things first, she will need to be watched around the clock to make sure she is eating properly." The first voice says. "We don't need another trip to the E.R from her not eating."

Someone blows there nose.

"I knew there was something up with her. She never even talked to me about being pregnant." Nicoletta's mother sniffles. Nicoletta can imagine tears staining her cheeks.

'Who's pregnant?' Nicoletta asks in her head.

"Many kids don't talk to their parents," the mysterious voice says. "All you can do now is be there for her. Let her know that you love her and her weight is unhealthy right now."

'Unhealthy right now!' Nicoletta screams in her head. 'I knew I was fat!' She bites her cheek to stop herself from crying.

"She couldn't of known she was pregnant anyway since she is only about ruffly two weeks along." The voice says. "It is truly a miracle that even at this early stage that the baby was unharmed. We will need to take tests later on in her pregnancy to find out for sure that there is no early signs of brain damage though."

"Oh, her sister had a teen pregnancy." Her mother says again. "I thought she would have learned her lesson from her." More nose blowing. "Why would she do this?" Nicoletta can feel the heartbreak in her mothers voice.

"You don't know her side of the story, she could have been drugged, or even raped, Mrs. Shea."

"Oh my poor baby!" Her mother cries. "If anybody hurt my baby I will personally take care of them the best way possible!" Her voice is venoumouse.

"Mrs. Shea, just wait until she is feeling better to question her. We don't need her feeling any worse than she already does and will."

Nicoletta had heard enough. "Mama?" She asks and opens her eyes to bright florescent lights.

Her mother rushes to her side and takes her hand as she sits down in the chair next to the railing of her bed. Her long brown hair falls around her shoulders and down her arms. It tickles Nicoletta's fingers as she leans closer to her. Her face is stained with tears with more still coming.

"I'm here sweety." She says. "I'm here."

Nicoletta looks at the woman who stands next to her mother. She looks to be in her late fifties and has a strong body underneath the green scrubs. A stethoscope is wrapped around her neck. Her curly blond locks bob around her ears and a pair of thick rimmed baby pink glasses sit on her face.

"I'm in the hospital aren't I?" Nicoletta says.

Her mother nods her head. "Yes honey you are."

"Why?"

"You fell down the bleachers at practice." She sniffles and wipes her eyes with her free hand. Her makeup starts to smear, leaving black smudges on her high cheekbones. "You have to stay here until you are all better."
